A little friendly advice would be appreciatedFollow

I'm not asking for myself, but rather, I'm asking on behalf of a guildie with her permission. English isn't her first language, so she'd be more comfortable with my asking here.

That's her profile. She prefers balance, so respeccing to feral or resto isn't her favorite option. That said, she lacks in DPS, and her mana pool isn't what she'd like it to be. For a long time, she was the only one capable of healing for us, so she was running around with healing gear a lot, and now she's playing catch up to get proper balance gear.

She would be focusing on mostly PvE (instances, eventually heroics and kara) with a casual, for fun PvPing once in a while.

Can some of you good hearted boomkins offer her some advice? What stats she should work on? What gear she should go for? Enchants and or armor patches? And perhaps critique her spec?

We are a young guild, and have no other druids for her to ask. (And I certainly know little about druids, especially balance) So she's kind of playing this by ear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

*"BORROWED" FROM THE DRUID 101 ON THIS FORUM*

First of all, im not a balance druid, but I am a druid, and been it for a little while, and roamed these forums for at least as long ;)

Second, dont just slam this into your friends face and tell her to respecc to it, but tell her to take a look at it, and she can see for herself how the different talents work together and all that :)

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/class.html?wclass=6;mid=1142379200225102855;page=1;howmany=50#m114237924051195053

Tell her to read this, she will learn a lot :)

Now ill let the real balance druids answer the rest :)

Hope it helps :)

youll find most of your answers in the druid 101, at least in regards to gearing.

for talents....try something like this (ill assume full balance):

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=0xcrzicsguVoZxxcL

as she gets more +spell hit she can drop balance of power and pick up starlight wrath, but seeing as she shouldnt be getting hit in combat during pve, reduced pushback effect on wrath isnt very useful. she could also opt for brambles, but thats really not that useful either. more spell hit is always nice, especially if you raid (you need something like +18% spell hit to negate resists on raid bosses) but in normal pve 6-7% spell hit should suffice, and BoP gives you 4% right out of the gate.

the resto stuff is malleable. the only important things are intensity (more mana regen) and subtlety (so she doesnt get killed from pulling aggro. or at least not as often).

Try meeting halfway.

While she has ****** damage gear, make her replace her worst damage pieces with +healing and make her heal a little. There's something clever about this build: Improved Regrowth. Casting Regrowth will almost always net a critical strike, meaning the next spell cast will have -0.5 secs of cast.

There are times where her healing will be irrelevant, and then she can abuse Moonkin. But make her be an asset to the raid while she works to get what she wants.

I've been balance from 15 all the way to 52 and so far i've had really no trouble main healing instances. It usually helps if i'm a on the upper end of the spectrum lvl wise for the instance, but healing usually goes fine as long as I have 2 or 3 pieces of +healing gear to throw on. Also, lots of good balance gear also improves healing, crit chance etc, so your friend should have a pretty easy time of things. Have her spend some time in the AH and on thotbott looking for some primo gear.

Honestly, if I ever become a panzerkin, this would more than likely be my build; sacrificing a small amount of MP5 for increased threat reduction can mean the difference between having to back off or being able to go all out more often.
While I love my feathery brothers and sisters, I doubt I'll ever join their ranks... I like being flexible and it seems that my guild is short tanks more often than healers. I may even be quoted when asked if I'm a healer as saying 'hell no, I'm a tank.'

I like Soggy's build from a PvE point of view.

However, if it's mostly PvE I'd consider dropping Force of Nature instead of 1 point of Dreamstate.

Well her current profile is kinda explaining why her DPS is so lack luster. She has to much healing as of right now. Also when she's looking for gear tell her to not to get to much spell crit. We had a moonkin packing 27% spell crit and he was pulling aggro all over the place even with subtley.

Mana doesnt look to bad I guess. Not a raiding druid specialist, but I still think its enough. She just has to learn how to control the mana pool which is usually the biggest challenge for Moonkins.

As for the build that looks good as well. I suggest dropping control of nature and finish up subtley unless you guys plan to PvP often. OoC is also nice in 5 mans, but I hear it doesnt have much use in raids.

Focus on Int and Spirit gear along with stuff that gives her bonus to heal/damage - that lets her increase her mana and bonus to crit as well as increasing her DPS while still giving her some healing options.

If your guild is so small that she's still depended upon as a healer, then she should avoid gear that's bonus only to damage, however, the reality is that you guys simply need to either A) recruit more healers or B) have some folks with mains who have redundent specs (probably DPS) level up some healer alts to flesh you folks out.

That's the best advice I can give, albiet, I'm a feral spec.

OoC doesn't proc for non-melee types I don't think, so for her it's mostly useless. Unless she wants to melle AND cast to make use of that armor boost and the moonkin special where they get mana back I guess.....

Your right it doesnt proc from non-melee attacks, but that was exactly my point. In 5 mans its ok to melee up when your low on mana. So it is good to have it so OoC procs so you get a free spell while also getting your mana back.

However in raids when all the bosses have big bang melee AoE attacks its better for the healers if the DPS stays back so she doesnt need to be healed.

Also many times in raids you have to do alot of damage in a certain time limit or a boss becomes near unbeatable. In this case the raid group cannot afford a moonkin to be doing miniscule damage with melee attacks therefore making OoC obsolete.
