So i rolled a priest a while ago, got him leveled to the 30's as shadow hit 40 and was actually dissapointed in the way the class played. I felt it lacked survivability, some thing I often desire and was just missing something, I guess to me it just didn't feel priestly.

I respecced to a mainly Discipline build with 5/5 in spirit tap and 2/2 in the holy talent that cuts down interuptions.

I BG'd for a bit at 45+ and felt like I was missing something, the 5/5 in spirit tap basically did nothing for me so I went for a full discipline build.

Wow what a difference, improved PW:Shield is a god send, and often ends up delivering the killing blow against casters.

I start my fights off with a Holy Fire, SW:Pain, then I usually just wand until it's dead with an occasional smite. Most times I don't even need to reapply PW:Shield during the fight. In the end I still have damn near full mana and during most grinds I never need to stop and rest. When I need to I pop Power Infusion and go to town and can bring mobs down fairly quickly.

In PvP I can handle any single opponent just fine (now that I realized how nice mana burn is) and even some duo's. I even took out a warrior + shammy duo yesterday (I was 48, they were both 47). I think they were quite shocked that I didn't die. As well as a mage + druid duo, though they were 45/44 when I was 47.

Anyway, my point is that alot of people tout shadow as the only real leveling spec, I just wanted to say that it does not need to be that way. I think you just need to play to the strengths of the build you choose. I am tempted to try out a holy build as well, but right now I am enjoying my survivability :)

Oh, I would agree that shadow isn't the only way to level. However, for me personally, the thought of being this shadowy dps machine was just too much fun to pass up. I never had any survivability issues that I noticed. I can see how the spec might not be for some people. In fact, I'm currently leveling another priest and the only points she has in the shadow tree are those into Spirit Tap. It is a bit slower so far, but a nice change.

It's just a different play style. Some styles people just can't get the hang of. I've played lots of different classes and styles and I find that they all have their own survivability and way of playing. Until I got used to that spec/class I found my survivability was low. I was actually very surprised at some of the things I could do on my shadow priest. I wasn't expecting it to be that great but I'm loving it.

Yeah, discipline is a great tree to level with, esp when rolling a NE priest(starshards ftw). Just shield, drop a swp and starshard till dead. I also put 11 pts into shadow for mindflay to handle any runners:) Primarily a pve lvling spec if you check my armory, just move the imp wand dam pts to stun/silence/fear resist and the spirit tap to shadow stunning for pvp(although i've been very successful in pvp with my current spec).

Yea mindflay is the one thing I am missing right now. I will probably spec disc/shadow until 70 then move to disc/holy for pvp.

I level as Discipline. It's very decent for leveling and has the advantage of being a credible healing build at the same time. The highlight for leveling and PvP is Reflective Shield, which turns an otherwise inefficient spell into an incredibly efficient combination of Shield and DoT. It's a thing of beauty. Hard to argue with PI, too.

I love my discipline priest. I don't think about drinking for mana anymore.

as a defender os spriest i would say if planning to be holy go dic/holy till 70 because if u have never played a healer do not get to 60 or 70 and wake up like ok what do i do now
but for survivability i love my spriest only having to badage if i pull 2 more mobs on tops of the one i am raping is nice and its fast i do i guess crazy dps or i run into alot of newbs cause i top dps charts all the time i am planning to stay shadow at 70 on this toon and i feel like i need to do instances to learn to play my class even tho i know how to play in general

I've always leveled shadow with some disc thrown in, I had imp pw:s and waited on shadowform til level 47 because of it.

Never had any survivability issues.

I dunno, fear a mob and mind flay it around, that usually solves any problem.
