2h DPS or D/W DPS for KaraFollow

So I'm in a small guild that only runs one Kara group per week. I'm getting a little upset because for whatever reason, my warrior is getting left out of Kara runs. I tried to position myself as the OT with my 35/5/21 build, but either someone signs up before me or I just have bad luck and don't get to go.

I never saw myself going past the first 4 bosses because due to gear and spec I would become a liability, and our MT still needed a bunch of items, so I typically took my rogue instead. But now I really want to gear up my warrior, and I'm thinking of speccing for DPS to make sure I get into runs. So I've spent the past couple weeks picking up some DPS gear so that I have the option to go DPS and still be effective. The problem is, I don't really know which way I'd be most effective. Should I go 31/30 2h DPS, or 17/44 D/W DPS?

You can check my sig for armory. I'm in Battle Stance with my 2h DPS gear on (note that I have Poleaxe Spec for the extra crit). For D/W, I have a Reflex Blades from Arc and Blackout Truncheon from SL sitting in the bank (which I would put Potency on if I go D/W). I also still have my Helm of Second Sight if the 13 extra +hit makes it better for D/W. I'd also be putting the DPS patch on my Legguards of the Shattered Hand.

I don't have a preference for playstyle, as I enjoy them both. So my question to you DPS warriors is: Which way should I go to be most effective?

Thanks in advance,
Camel

You don't have the hit rating yet to make DW viable. Go MS/Slam and equip your helm of second sight anyways to try and push your hit to 8.6%

Also a very cheap upgrade that will also gain you a fair amount of dps are Felsteel Whisper Knives. Since your a miner you probably have the felsteel bars. The primals (farmable) and leather are relatively cheap and any BS at level 350 or higher can make them for you.

Edit: actually on second though with percision you should be fine DWing.

like jim said, felsteel whisper knives and precision should make your +hit viable for d/w fury. my concern is, will you be putting out enough dps? i had to have at least my current dps gear set to put out dps and total damage output comparable to one of our fire mages in regular slabs, and that was with blessing of salvation cast on me. i can't remember whether or not i had to offtank at all during that run, but i did spam rexecutes on the bosses, so that should more than make up for any dps i lost offtanking.

i have my tanking set on atm, but just to keep things short i have 1694 AP unbuffed in my dps set, and just under 8% hit. i was on add duty recently in regular BM, and i outdid a lock with mostly epics on total damage by 1-200k. i think you're going to have to upgrade your mainhand to something on the level of the planar edge or the mace and your offhand to one of the epics on xordon's loot list.

Thanks for the replies guys. Your input is much appreciated. I know my weapons are by far my biggest liability. Not being a Blacksmith has really hurt in that department. Since my intention was, and still is, to be a tank, I chose Engineering instead. I can't afford to level BS just for the weapon.

I've started the Aldor grind to get the Vindicator's Brand, but I'm probably at least a week or two away from getting that.

That is also my concern. Having never used a full DPS spec at 70, I really don't know what to expect using the gear that I have. I figure that with the upgrades that we talked about I can get pretty close to 1600 AP unbuffed. I don't have to top the damage meters to be able to go. I just want to make sure that my DPS is reasonable so that I'm not dead weight.

Like I said, I'll probably just be going for the first 4 bosses for a while, which shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Just remember baseline stats at 70 are 25% crit, 1400 AP, and 10% hit in battle stance for you to be "viable" dps. You probably won't be topping the charts but you won't be a liability.

Also you don't really need to have any points in prot to be an off tank granted that you have a solid tanking set. 12k hp, 490 defense, 30% dodge+parry. You can OT just fine with those stats and not a single point in prot.

EDIT:This is for D/W fury, not MS/slam, so ignore me if you go with a 2H

May i suggest getting a merc gladiator off hand (any type) they are 97 DPS with 1.5 speed and some quite nice stats.

And if you dont like PvP or have crappy teams then start your own 5v5, get everyone in your group, they give you 40g each and you set up the team (this makes sure you get all your money back) then play (and probebly lose depending on how good the randoms you picked up were) 10 games, get 300 points and redo next weekend, it will take 4 weeks and 160g (3 days of skettis/ogril'la dailies to pay for this) to get it and you wont upgrade it untill SSC/TK

As for the MH the vindicators brand is good and from halfway honored took me one weekend and about 700g to get to exalted, cheaper than lvling blacksmithing and will do you fine through kara.

Other than that try to get more +hit, swap out your boots and gloves for the fel leather set, they only had a few points less AP but a ton more crit and hit for me, keep your plate for solo though :P

NOTE: Sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm tired lol

Again, thanks for the replies.

Jim,

Those were defnitely the stats I was shooting for. It looks like I may come up a hair short on the crit, but if I resocket a couple things I can probably get there. I'll be well over the AP mark, but miss the 10% +hit, unless that's with the 3% from precision.

I've got a decent tanking set, so I may give this a go.

Imtar,

I've got the point to pick up an OH weapon, but I was saving them for the shield. Although I may reconsider.

Thanks again,
Camel

I'd get the off hand since the rep shield from the shatar is very nice and not hard at all to obtain.

And yes 10% with percision.

Sorry for being dense, but you mean 10% from gear +3% from precision = +13% overall +hit as opposed to 7% from gear and 3% from precision right?

I'm used to the rogue forums where most of the discussions assume that you have the 5% to hit from talents.

7 hit + 3 to get 10. Later on, you'll be getting gear with hit and other great stats for DW'ing anyways.

I'd say for full fury though 1400 ap is a bit low. It's easy to get to 25/1500/15 in all blues.

and if you're not mt'ing don't bother with the arena shield. save up some more points and get the main hand.

Also, get a few veterans pieces as they will be better than your current pieces you have there and regem with blues.

Thanks russki. I should be able to get to 25% crit and close to 1600 AP unbuffed, but I'll definitely be short of the 15% hit. I'll be down somewhere in the 12% range. I've socketed my gear pretty much exclusively for Crit and Strength at the advice of the PvE DPS FAQ.

If I do go DPS, I'll probably start with the 2 hander, since I think my gear lends itself to that spec a little better now. I'll switch to D/W when I can pick up a vindicator's brand or an arena weapon.

Thanks for all the useful info guys.

Yes more is always better. I was just giving base line stats you have to have before your no longer a liability.

A good way to raise your hit is to get two pieces of Doomplate. The two easiest to get are the chest out of arcatraz (especially since they nerfed the living **** outta the last boss in there), and the shoulders out of UB heroic. Matter of fact I still use those two pieces. Really hard to replace cause I'll lose my two set bonus lol.
