Should the shadowmeld race skill be added?

it adds +5 [1 level] to stealth.

Wow, I never thought about this stuff. Changes my view a lot about Stealth, since I never understood how it was measured.

Btw, how much rate ups does it take to make someone a Scholar or w/e?

The process of accruing titles is described in the site FAQ.

Good post.

Maybe you can add the fact that some NPC's -mostly found in dungeons- can detect stealthed characters; they have a blue dot (or whatever it is) above their head.

Good idea, I'll pop it in there.

One thing I've always been curious about is Vanish. It states "improved stealth mode" for the first ten seconds. Does anyone know how much it actually is? Might be worth adding.

I was thinking about Vanish but it's hard to pin down exactly how 'improved' it is.
I've read anywhere from 1 - 15 levels.

Can some admin at least edit his title so it's spelled right? The thing that separates rogues from the rest is we're significantly more intelligent. Having a typo in our stickies ruins this reputation.

Edit:

And I did rate you up for good information.

Another item you missed, Figurine - Nightseye Panther. It's +1 effective stealth level if I remember correctly.

Great writeup, short and to the point.

I've been wondering how stealth worked for some time now. Especially how the Night Elf racial works with it.

Just for clarification. Does the NE racial modify stealth all the time or only when active?

Also wondering, does the Warlock spell Detect Lesser Invisibility help with detecting stealth? If so, what is the perception bonus?

Great Information, thanks.

Night elf racial is a passive bonus. Invisibility is also a different mechanic than stealth, so anything that gives you detect invisibility does not effect stealth.

I guess this information should be in this thread: HOW TO USE SHADOWMELD.

At first, as a rogue, I thought that Shadowmeld was just a lesser version of Stealth and was of no real use to a rogue, except for its passive effect (improved Stealth). Big mistake. I have since learnt to make the best out of my night elf racial ability and would like to share it with you so that the less experienced night elf rogues can use their racial at its fullest.

Note that Shadowmeld and Sleath are on different timers.

Sometimes, you want to restealth but stealth is on CD (10 sec without Camo, 5 sec with 5/5 Camo). If you're not exiting from combat, at those times, Shadowmeld will usually be up. So you can Shadowmeld, wait a few seconds without moving (else Shadowmeld breaks), Stealth and move on as usually.

In short, Shadowmeld allows you to restealth before Stealth's CD is over (only limitation: don't move before you can restealth).

Example of uses: in a BG, you're stealthed and need to take an action that will break stealth, such as talking to a NPC, drinking a potion, bandaging, etc. You can't restealth immediately which is a pain since those few seconds can get you targetted and killed. Just Shadowmeld and you're safe until you can restealth. This means that you're out of stealth just one second, then back into Shadowmeld. The risk that you get targeted in this mere second is very low.

I've even used this in arena to disappear from sight behind a pillar and get the few seconds I needed to restealth.

Another use for Shadowmeld... in BGs I have a macro that i click to eat food and enable Shadowmeld automatically while my stealth cools down. It works great!

Great post but i have one question. If your stealthed can you see mages that are invisible?

Being stealthed has as far as I know no impact on your stealth detection.

I have never spotted an invisible mage (or a user of the invisibility trinket). I have to assume that they're unspottable, but I don't know that for sure.

Wow... You just blew my mind. I always thought hunters could see rogues without a problem. I guess we can still hide from em. Haha! Rogue FTW!
