Hi all,
My profile:
http://http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Korialstrasz&n=Jaylexx
Sorry, no fancy link to it.
I just found a nice little main-hand weapon, and have had the off-hand sitting around for a few weeks. I've been 2h'ing it for most of my 64 levels but would like to start dual-wielding while questing & grinding my way to lvl 70.
I'm currently spec'd Arms with some prot added in because I've been tanking a lot of dungeons since lvl 60 and want to keep the prot points.
Can I keep my build while dual-wielding, or is it necessary to move over to a fury/prot build?
Thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated. To be honest, I'd like to keep my build, but would switch out to a fury/prot if I was really wasting available fury-dps.
Thanks!

nice hybrid build, can't see anything wrong with it, looks great for arms/prot.

however, you cannot dual wield effectively with this build. to dw effectively, at the very least you have to spec 5/5 flurry, and even then if you try to dw with MS as your main instant attack you won't be putting out as much dps as you would with BT. MS is dependent on weapon damage (which MH/OH weapons suffer in comparison to 2h), whereas BT is dependent on AP. imo it is necessary to respec fury/prot if you really want to dual wield. on the other hand, you should wait til you are well-geared enough for dual wield, as it is the most gear-dependent spec you can get into. i remember speccing dw at 65 with quest blues and greens and it was nowhere near as effective as it is now that i have mostly blues and a smattering of epics. it's not like an arms build where all you really need is a 2h with big max damage to put out big numbers.

If you are going to dw, you need to respec. MS is not going to give you the damage that you want on that 1 hander. Bloodthirst is going to be much more appropriate for you. Just look at flurry. Swap over and try it out. you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the feedback so far....can anyone suggest a fury/prot build that would be similar to the one I have now...?
I don't mind throwing the gold into a quick re-spec just to test the water and see how I do, even if I decide to dump more gold into spec'ing back to Arms/Fury soon after......
Thanks again!

if you want a cookie cutter fury dw build, you can find one in RPZip's Warrior faq. a lot of good info in there.

honestly, you dont need to put any talent pts in prot tree to tank, at least for those pre-70 instances. if you are used to and good at tanking without spending single talent pts in prot tree, and when you switch to prot spec, tanking became a joke.

You can look at my profile. I actually am happy with the prot points. I have tanked in the 70 instances non heroic and i dont have the best tank gear in the world.

For a d/w prot build. If you choose to go the BT route, the next patch will have TM give a threat (10/20/30%) bonus to BT and MS, you don't need to spec defiance to tank, but it sure damn helps. It's hard to build a prot/fury build, unless your bypassing imp tclap, or loosing out on the top end fury tree talents.

But if I had a choice, I would consider something like 8/41/12 or 5/41/15. And depending on what your tanking alot...

You don't need to spec imp shield block (but it's still a very good talent to take) unless your tanking mobs that have crushing blows. Stressing the NEED and CRUSHING parts.

It's very difficult to balance that kind of spec.

If your not worried about mitigation/avoidance and just want to DPS tank, Arms/prot builds are also good. TANK WITH A 2H!

Ok, all silliness aside, as long as your not in a heroic instance, and your healers aren't asleep, you can tank most trash with a 2h in defensive stance. You should put a shield on for bosses.

I used to use a tanking build very very similar to this one 42/5/14.

Put on your bare minimal defense gear, and stack your dps gear next to it. (72 elite mobs require 485 defense to be uncrittable, Level 71 mobs require 480) resilience can really help with getting that crit % from trash mobs down. So consider putting on PvP gear. (with just 50 resilience you cut your required defense rating to 450 for lvl 71 and 455 for 72). Get the Tank Points addon to help you figure out if your uncrittable.

In no way should you be tanking raids with these builds. Unless you have some really amazingly good healers, and great dps to push things along (read as: knowing how to read a threat meter). Or you have a huge gear advantage over your raid mobs.

Hmmm, quick question devious:

Is it really worth the extra 8 points in Arms for Endless Rage?

I was thinking more along the lines of

Thanks again for all your help everyone. I really liked Safyre's build and will probably try that out in a couple of levels when I get some more +hit gear.
Maybe I'll stick around with my 2h'der for a bit longer...I guess I like being Arms too much.

Oh, and I actually like tanking with my Axe and shield even though it can be done with a 2-hander. I think it's always adviseable for new(er) tanks to learn how to sword&board early on....so that they know what they're doing in the 70's dungeons.

Oh, and this way...we don't have to hear stuff like 'Dude, where's your shield you n00b?!'

it might be if endless rage really produced 25% more rage, but it doesn't.
