Anyone else enjoying tanking the horseman?Follow

#1 Oct 21 2007 at 9:32 PM Rating: Decent
I have done about 15+ runs and I can't get enough of this fight. Its simple but entertaining. I have enjoyed the story, and the comments from him. I can honestly say there isn't much I dislike from this fight.

As far as tactics, what have you guys been doing?

I toss out a lot of frontend hate, than SoW the last 50-60% of each form. I try to melee the head, but often just ignore him. I let the dps take care of it. It saves me mana for when he regroups again.

When the pumpkins spawn, I try to lay some AoEs around. That usually ensures they come to me when they pop. From there, I have my mage AoE them for a quick death.

I must say I loved this fight. Blizz, you did good this time for sure :) I went back on my Lock to get the magic DPS ring (not gotten it yet) and put up Seed for the adds ... For a moment I forgot we had a Warrior tanking him, not a Paly, lol, so I died >.>

I had a blast tanking him, I tanked it with BoSalv up and I opened with Avenging Wrath and threw the shield at him, then Holy Shield, SoR, judge SoR. With that it was more than enough to hold hate for the rest of the fight, the fact that I am a BE and he has mana allowed me to mana tap him several times also.

Only time I was having a problem with it is because of some damn huntersthat didn't understand the concept of turning off their pet's growl. Once I let their pets die a few times they got the idea. But that was only with the BM spec hunter I went with, I did it again with a MM spec hunter and keeping it off his pet wasn't so difficult.

Only thing I didn't/don't like: why the hell isn't he undead?

Yeah it feels like a pally tank is supposed to tank this. Who best to send a former member of the Silver hand to hell than a paladin? Maybe its because Im on an RP server, stuff like this is 10x better.

I was healing a HH run, the bear tank thought it would be fun to tank in dps gear in cat form (cause it is sooooo easy) and when the adds spawned they f'ucked his couch. I couldn't even get a flash light off and he was dead. The dps warrior and mage managed to kill the adds but still died. So there I am a healer all by myself with the Headless Horseman.

Figure if we wipe on him it will be as embarrassing as losing at chess in Kara so I start healing myself. By the time everyone else had released, spirit run back to SM:GY and run all the way through the instance I was at 1/4 mana but full health which was more than enough to finish the fight.

Had the same problem, lol. But I think it was an honest mistake, once I told him to check his pet everything was fine.

Overall this entire event was a blast especially the pvp after each encounter.

Why do the adds need taken care off? they despawn when he dies, it is very easy to just DPS the HHM and then the head.

That's what i was thinking, but we had a warrior DPSing the adds...

I didn't say anything but found it curious

It just makes it easier to grab threat on them so while you are dpsing the head down the adds arent killing the healer.

I like to get hate on them all, than train them away from the group. They do so little damage to me, we can kill the head before anything bad happens.

I got really bored with it after the 15th fight and no dps helm dropped... my dps shammy and warrior were bent out of shape because they both died... the warrior got two shotted and the shammy one shotted... it wasn't until the fourth fight that someone said "Oh, guys, he randomly cleaves anyone in LOS" . . . long pause . . . "So we should be behind the horseman?" . . . long pause . . . 12 flawless fights follow and no apologies come to the tank who had nasty comments about his lack of taunting.

Lol, so rogues who know to stand behind mobs as to avoid parry/frontal AOE's would have been the only ones standing? Sry, as a (quess who) Rogue main, i'm amazed when any melee dps isn't behind the boss as much as possible. Glad the rest of your fights went well though.

Well, in defense of other melee DPS classes, Rogues should have gotten the habit of staying behind by end-game. Warriors and Shammies, on the other hand, have nothing special to use while behind targets.

It's still no excuse, but, y'know. ;P

when the add show up, i find the highest grouping and drop a consicrate so they dont bee line the Healer, other then that. i judge and AS the head when im in range and avoid the wirl winding boddy thats trying to chase meh.
