the additional % i was getting from dodge/parry gems didn't seem significant (i lost maybe 1-2% max from either from resocking for stam) and i knew i needed more stam, so i resocked +12 stam as much as i could. i know my shoulders, boots, ring and trinket all need major upgrades (should've kept sha'tari greaves for tanking feet when i upgraded to ogrila dps boots for my dps set) and i need more enchants on gear (would've gotten nethercleft leg armor but was about 40g short)... but otherwise can i survive as a MT in kara? or OT at least?

It's possible. I'd get some more HP first.

I started tanking kara 15 dodge 15 parry, 11000 armor and 10000 hp. You'd be fine as an OT. Your HP is my only concern. But as long as you keep commanding shout up, and demo shout on your target. You'll be ok for the first half of Kara.

QFT. In the meantime, your shoulders are the most desperately needed upgrade. The boots are pretty bad too. Prioritize replacing those two pieces first, then your trinket.

So I looked at the armory and came to the conclusion that you were in your DPS gear, so I couldn't really help you out in regards to MT'ing Kara or not. If you need shoulders I would run Sethekk Halls on Heroic in the hopes of the Spaulders of Dimentia. Basically if you can get some heroic items and some of the dungeon set, ..of the Bold, you should be ok. But as I can't see your gear atm, I'm not sure if you have any or not.

An easy way to make up some HP is to socket 9 sta or 12 sta gems in every socket. I know it's probably expensive. But the 8 hit rating, defense, parry gems are not really worth it (nor are the small bonuses from socket matching). Your shield slam on cooldown constantly, and revenge should be more than enough threat. You want as much stamina and armor as possible, and retain at least 15% dodge and parry, and 490 defense; for kara. As you start to get the tanking items from kara, your HP and armor will start catching up to what you want, 14-15k hp/armor, exiting kara. Your avoidance will go up with the new gear.

The Warchief's Mantle is a nice upgrade for your shoulders. 12 sta gems in each socket makes it one of the better tanking shoulders. The gladiator shoulders are also really nice (from the pure sta on them and sockets).

bold shoulders are quite good.

A new ring is needed, and not sure what trinket you use in place of the mount speed one.

Don't socket defense ever (unless you are under 490 def, which you are far from) and don't be shy to get the best enchants you can. +3 stamina on bracers? cmon, show that you're serious about tanking, get that 12 stam on there! not like gold is hard to make in TBC

i've thrown +12stam in almost every socket, except for the ones i need (like +hit), but even those are few and far between. my dodge/parry/block is something like 15/17/22%, good to know that at least those ratings are adequate.

lol +3stam on bracers was a throwaway enchant i got when i was dead broke. i make most of my money from dailies and vendor trash, most of the time i'm trying to get into dungeons and bg's so i don't dedicate any real time to farming. i figure getting 12k hp unbuffed shouldn't be a problem with a few upgrades.
