Soloing as RestoFollow

I'm about to go Resto on my druid (currently 68, should be 70 in no time), and I'm wondering what most people do to solo stuff for dailies, farming, etc. It would seem to me that since your talents are going towards mana regen and such, it would be most beneficial to stack up on balance gear and use that. You don't have Moonkin form - but is that a deal breaker? I have a pretty good selection of feral gear from leveling but it seems like soloing stuff as a a caster would be more efficient. Any thoughts?

honestly, just getting a feral set of gear and using cat form works for the most part. for soloing difficult stuff, stack armor, stam, int and +healing (roughly in that order). if you get adds, drop into bear form and just weather the storm.

the biggest thing that will help you get a good resto soloing groove is finding the right balance of caster stats and feral stats. usually going all feral or all caster doesnt work out, but balancing feral form usage with healing and tailoring your gear to that will let you solo endlessly.

For pure solo go Feral, FOr team ups (like always playing with same people) go feral till 40, then switch balance.
The whole point is that at 40 u get Moonkin, with full balance equip and moonkin.. u will have very nice dps, with the big plus of a decent mana regen and a decent heal capacity in tight situations.
Me and my girlfriend (druid/mage-combo) kill every single questmob easily up till 3 levels higher. Die very rarely, mostly cause of unexpected adds :P

But if u wanna really solo, a Bear-cat combo tactic is most health efficient(so time efficient :P) i think =)

--------------------------------

For a resto-specced with solo gear, id say go feral-geared.
Its way easier to get decend feral gear then decend Balance gear.
Also you'll be facing a drastic lack of armor when u dont got moonkin in balance-lvling.
Id advice a staff like This as weapon (or Thisif u dont the netherstorm quest) with same decend Leatherworking/quest/dropped gear.
WIll be no problem

I've already got a bunch of feral gear, my Staff of Beasts and stuff, so I guess I'll just continue using that, should be easiest. Thanks for the help.

My druid is resto aswell, and when I grind/quest I use my feral gear, because I lack any balance gear. However, I think if you have some balance gear spell casting might be better than going kitty.

Anyway, it will all be much easier when 2.3 comes out. I went on the PTR and I was able to do around 3,5k starfire crits with my healing gear and balance spec.

I am resto too but was feral til I entered Kara so have decent Kitty gear. A nice balance between the 2 is ~1800AP ~20crit and 500 healing which is pretty easy to achieve with a little bit of Kara Gear.

The problem with just using your spells as resto is that you have none of the talents in balance which are the only things that even start to make druids viable as caster dpsers. Extra crit, extra damage, lower cast times, all are Necessary in order to cast effectively.

So yeah, like Quor says, just use feral forms as it is much more efficient for soloing.

To put a slightly different view on this, if you are still in Kara or before (i.e. 5-mans or 10-mans), you can also try the so-called "Dreamstate" build, by putting most of your talent points in balance and a few in resto. The idea being to spam HS with good mana efficiency and try to make HS cast time as short as possible (nature's grace and naturalist). And still use a few HoTs here and there. That way you can definitely heal or dps depending on the situation. You need 2 gear sets, though. And this is going to be even easier in 2.3.

Once you start 25-mans you shouldn't have that much grinding/farming left to do, and at that point you can still run Kara from time to time for feral gear (which is very nice in Kara). Most of what you need for 25-mans and that won't come from raiding, will be consumables and PvP gear - no problem for a resto druid.
