Okay... I just have to ask. What's everyone's record for chain trapping a single mob in an instance? I can never seem to get more than 3. Not because I CAN'T (more often than not, I have the 4th trap laid), but because groups always seem to go after my trapped mob BEFORE the sapped one.

It makes me wonder if I even really need a second piece of beast lord armor, because I very rarely need to chain trap for extended amounts of time.

My personal record in fiveman instances for one single mob is just five trappings, for the same reasons as above. By the time I've trapped him five times, there either ain't any other mobs left, or the last one is a sheep.

My personal best trap record though, happened when I trapped one mob four times, Warlock Dotted him and we promptly got another pull at the same time. I didn't count the amount of traps I laid, but I kept one mob permanently out of the fight for quite a long time. But since it was two different mobs, I can't really call it a chaintrap. Wyvern Sting and Pet Offtanking was also quite often used. Thank God our healer saw the worth of Offtanking on that bad add-pull, or my Humar would have been toast.

Sidenote: Don't you just love it when a party adapts to any situations without having to say a single word? Just doing your jobs and complimenting eachother's weaknesses and strengths automatically? Our tank even kept marks up throughout the fight while dealing with multiple mobs at the same time. It was awesome.

My personal best, and not to boast, is keeping 2 mobs constantly trapped, and it was for Moroes. I had my own mob to deal with, and for our guild we normally kill 2 adds, and CC 2 adds for Moroes. Well unfortunately one of the adds got loose and killed our Shadow Priest who was shackling him. As I watched the mob quickly turn to a healer, I took it upon myself to kite him until I could get another trap out. What happened next was a series of kiting and traps. I would always have one constantly frozen, and lay another trap as soon as possible, but I didn't let the mob into the trap right away. I would kite the mob as much as possible, before I absolutely had to trap him. That way when the other one popped I already had another trap waiting for him.

Other then that, I can keep a mob trapped indefinately. I don't have any problems with keeping a single target trapped until the cows come home. Now if I put on my CC gear (2 pieces of beast-lord) I can go to sleep while I trap things =P

Before I spec'd Survival I had no problem chain trapping indefinately. The key is timing and laying your traps seperately. At most you have to wait 10 extra seconds for the cooldown. That's easy enough to do if you lay down a trap, and use a concussive shot as they come out of your first trap. Make sure your trap is far enough away, and you're set.

Ah, nice survival tricks there. ;)

I feel good about keeping one mob frozen (or briefly beating on me before I lay another trap) while my cat off-tanks a second mob and I'm shooting the mob the tank beating upon.

For me, being SV spec with 2+ Beast Lord pieces isn't just about keeping one mob trapped (26 second duration, 20 second cooldown...I could trap one mob all day long if I had to). It's about having an extra trap handy for when something goes sideways and you need reliable extra CC fast.

Tonight in Botanica we were cruising along quite nicely when one of the pulls in the room before the 4th boss went a little sideways. With my mob freshly trapped, I noticed the healer had a cranky nasty heading towards him. Scatter Shot to buy some time to move and the mob in front of the healer was trapped. The first mob I trapped got out of his trap just as I put the second trap down for him. By now the tank had moved on the mob I trapped to keep the healer out of trouble and then resumed the kill order. By the time the fight was over, neither myself, the healer, nor my pet had taken a single point of damage and the mob I was originally marked to trap had been successfully put on ice three times.

A good Hunter of any spec can keep one mob trapped indefinately. The reduced cooldowns from gear/talents add that little extra utility for a situation gone wrong, which, if you can do it consistantly, is a big part of what seperates good Hunters from really good Hunters.

Does Moroes fight count?

I am usually on continous add duty so that the healers can consentrate on other things.

Personal record is keeping the Tanking Warrior chain trapped the entire fight which would be 9+ times the poor ******* got frozen while contemplate what exactly he was trying to do.
