So, Mace Spec got a stealth buff. +5% crit damage, to be precise. Now people who want to PvP won't have to respec to compete in PvE too.
Replacing the +Weapon Skill, right?
Blizzard seems to enjoy stealth buffing things. The addition of the mutilator is amazing, yet they haven't said a word about it yet.

Actually, from what I gather, 10 weapon skill HEAVILY outweights 5% more critical damage.

The problem was, Mace spec had nothing that increased its DPS like the other weapon specs. Every weapon type could get 10 weapon skill, but maces got no additional damage from their weapon spec talent. It simply saved 2 talent points by not having to get WE. Now, it does have extra damage on the specialization talent, thus it has been buffed.
If they'd left the weapon skill on it (while giving WE Expertise) it actually _would_ have been a buff. As it is... meh. It's a minor nerf.
Weapon skill got nerfed, not mace spec. Now you can use both Weapon Expertise and Mace Spec, increasing overall DPS with maces, thus maces have been buffed.
maces got buffed because weapon skill + pvp = useless
most mace rogues are full pvp, thats the intention guys, not the pve side of things
but yes, now you can grab weapon expertise too, and mace spec is stun +1 point of lethality that affects all crits, not just special crits
improved for what mace ares used for, sidegrade for pve/pvp hybrids, small upgrade for full on raid pve
but whos specced mace with only raiding intentions?

Me, and I do quite well, actually.
Took down lurker last week, and just took down doomwalker last night. Even picked up the terrorweave tunic. ^_^
Im really glad it got a DPS buff, 5% crit damage will help me out quite a bit.
You will still be top of the charts in damage with the other rogues if you know what you are doing, the only difference is, depending on gear, you may not be #1.
I have made it my goal to outdps my class lead at least once in a raid. He is fists and has a bit better gear, so it may happen.

This is the correct answer, and the one most people fail to grasp about the 2.3 changes. >:/
