Bam! DeadFollow

#1 Oct 20 2007 at 7:31 AM Rating: Default
I was at my friend's house playing his high resillience(300+) mage(70)(abt 9k hp) while his was on an errand and i was idyllically sightseeing at Netherstorm, occassionally stopping at the manaforges to kill some blood elves. Here comes a warlock(level 70). He was destro i supposed and i didnt see him( he was approaching with his flying mount from behind atop) and he shadow bolt me with a crit of 7k(ouch!) and seduced me and shadowburn with another 7k and i was dead.

I walked back and rez inna corner drinking and eating while the warlock scour on the land to look for me. All buffed up and i decided to try my luck on that warlock again. When in range, did the insta pyro thing(couldnt rmb it is a crit or not) but it didnt mattered to the warlock who left like half of his chunk of life left and he seduced me and bammed! 8k shadowbolt with a shadowfury and 8k shadowburn. Ouch! This type of destruction warlock is like a better than any AP POM fire mage. I didnt even get a chance to even knock him to the red.

So i decided to roll a warlock and have the fun he's having

And you'll never be as good as him because only a ****** player decides to roll a class based on how "good" or "overpowered" the class is supposed to be.

If that's true, his gear must have been more than godly. A mage with equal quality of gear would probably do 12k pyro or something.

I never feel the class is overpowered or good. Its the big numbers i like. call it the big numbers syndrome. Be it killing a huge group mobs at a tme, seeing big crits or even big numbers in +intel or +spelldmg and that translate directly to big numers makes me excited?

Never as good as him? Even i was to start from level 1, there is a huge way to go. From levelling to instancing to doing quest. Levelling profession getting ready for arena and raiding and after that raiding Kara, Gruul, TK. We are not talking about all doing it a day or a single week. there are things in the warlock class that i havent grasp or even know about it. I see the potential of seeing high crits, so i want to personally see it. Just because of seeing higher crits make me a sh*tty player? So potential entrepreneur are the stupidest lots, seeing big money from corporate and starting a new company makes him a sh*tty boss? Levelling a class and making it big and setting up a company and seeing it make big bucks are very worlds apart, but the logic are akin. Seriously, i dont get it.

*Note*: If the 8k shadowburn sounds absurd, i apologise but i maintained that i really see it. Im looking through the net for the talents and variables that affects shadowburn.

As for the crit, i seen it. It may be or it may not sound plausbile. Does trinketng + orc's racial + raiding gear+ some alchemical potions/flask push it up? Im new to the warlock class, i have still lots to keep up to and equations to know and how things works up.

Even Soul Fire is unlikely to hit for that much, even trinketed + Blood Fury. Unless he has some totally obscene crit chance...

I rolled hunter to see why everyone hates them, all say its easy mode and mostly jerks roll them.

So far its not easy at all, its really fun to play, none hates me (sigh) and I am getting more instance invites on my 66 hunter than I ever got on my long time 70 lock.

Finish out your heroic keys and you'll get random whispers to go run mech... or at least I do.

Improved Shadowbolt+trinkets+Orc=high-end damage, but not 8k Shadowburns. What you probably saw was a Nightfall proc of another Shadowbolt. The crit damage is in line with the initial Shadowbolt you said, and some did more damage. This was probably due to Improved Shadowbolt's proc adding 20% damage. So you are probably right about the crit, just the wrong skill.

To all the people who called him out on it: grow up. Analyze the situation before you jump on the "screenie or it didn't happen!" bandwagon. I was guilty of that too, and yes I am a hypocrite, but I have a big podium so I can stroke my e-peen more.

8000 damage crit. Multiply by 15% crit damage reduction. Would have been a 8600 hit, assuming resilience only effect the "crit" part of the damage (no idea if it does or not).
4300 damage hit.
Divide out ISB and I'll even throw in CoS. 3257 damage pre-multipliers.
3257 minus base max of 665. 2592 before +dmg.
Shadowburn has ~43% coefficient. He would have needed 6048 damage to get a 8000 shadowburn crit. Considering the maximum even possible with tons of raids buffs is under 2000...

Come to think of it, and 8k shadowbolt isn't even possible in that situation.
8000 damage crit, 8600 before resilience. 4300 normal hit.
No ISB, I'll give you CoS. 3909 after +dmg.
Base damage of
Coefficient of ~1.06. 3127 +dmg to get an 8k shadowbolt crit.

Am I missing something here?

Just calling on self buffs, the SB at 7k?

DS/SnF build
Sac suc for 15%
CoS for 10%
Ruin crit
In Malefic

1500 spell power (figure 1100 base, botanica buff, fel armor)

1500x1.06 = 1590
Top end base hit = 603
2493 hit x 1.31 for DS and CoS and Malefic set bonus.

6531. I'm willing to say that 6531 is within the 7k margin of error if you can show me a warlock in full T6 and tell me WTF he was doing out in Botanica. Incidentally, before anyone bothers to tell me such uber locks do not exist:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Tichondrius&n=Rogerklutz

This guy could easily have put out the hit I'm talking about WITHOUT the buff from Botanica. If he was in there farming badges for the next patch, he could have hit the 8k. As far as dropping another one on Shadow Burn goes... maybe. I've got to get to class so I can't do that math atm.

He specifically mentioned getting Seduced with the 8k Shadowbolt crit, and taking a Shadowfury. No saccy sac even available.

Lol retadin xD

Back to topic....I dont really have much to say except that a SB for 8k is not *that* impossible to do... but a shadowburn is, you would need something like Tier 9-10 to do it =/

New to warlock, warlock is a healthy 26 dinged yesterday, im just pretty unsure about the animation because of the bgs i went to, warlocks are either affliction or demo in bg. Even there are warlocks on bg, im either too busy fighting or too fast dead to even check what the heck spell they are using.

As my friend comments, its a soulfire not shadowburn. Im looking in armory without a lead on what's the name of uber

Yeah but if you have DM you cant have SnF...

I call exaggeration :P

p.s. An 8k Shadowburn might be possible on some bosses like curator or the 2nd boss in Heroic mech but only because the have 300% damage debuffs
