I dinged 66 and headed first to BEM to get LB 6 for my wind serpent. Then I went to tame Rema but she really doesnt look very impressive when she gets so small.
So I decided to get screech 5 and give Trachela a try.

So far she doesnt have any points to train single thing, but I am wondering about screech. It is supposed to be sort of AE debuff right?
Since I am running instances with very good prot warrior I am not really worried about pulling any aggro from him, but I am interested in general how does screech work.
Since its not direct damage I suppose it can be used near CCed (sheeped or we) mobs without fear?
Or did I get it all wrong?
Can someone please enlighten me a bit? :)

Screech should not pull aggro from a good prot warrior. You're right, it's an aoe debuff, affecting all mobs in melee range. It does not break traps and it causes a small to moderate amount of aggro.
How much? I don't know, but it will take a couple (4-5?) screeches on a group of mobs if I'm not to pull aggro with a multi-shot.
At least it causes enough hate so that I never pull aggro off a group with my mend pets.
I find it very useful.

Screech is an AE debuff that lowers attack power. It will help hold aggro on a multi-pull while soloing, but otherwise should not be a major aggro concern. The pet CAN rip aggro away on the off-targets if the tank isn't maintaining, but probably won't be enough to allow you to multi-shot repeatedly.

Where damage is concerned, screech does do damage to the pet's target. It does NOT do damage to the other target's nearby. So don't target a sheep and screech, but you can use it safely near one. In fact, when I solo, I try to freeze adds and then make the pet fight the main target next to the ice cube.

Thanks for the answers, so its just the way I thought.

I am not expecting her to hold aggro on multi shots, I dont use multi shot very often and when I do I make sure I have trap ready.
I am not worried about pulling aggro off my tank either, that I can only do with few crits in a row if I start shooting too soon. But he is capable of getting it back fast.

I know it does damage to main pet target only too, and damage is in general the only way to break CC... I learned that on my lock soon I got felguard with cleave.

I was just trying to make sure :)

Now one more small question, I have both claw and bite ready to train her once she gets enough points (along with dive too) and I have bestial discipline and go for the throat in my talent tree.
On my cat I have both and I have no problems with aggro holding.
What would you suggest to train on the bird? I suppose both would be bit too much with growl and screech, wouldnt it?

I dont think you would get too much of a focus problem with both bite and claw. However, it would prevent you from using one of growl, screech and dive. Skip bite instead. Claw does more damage than bite, but can be a bit of a focus hog, but with bestial discipline you should be fine.

Claw and Screech are both focus dumps with no cooldown. They essentially cancel each other out. Bite + Screech is the way to go.

Eh now I am bit confused what to train.
In every day soloing I want growl and screech to keep aggro, right?

But when I am in instance I turn off growl and use it only manually if something goes wrong and I have to pull hate off the healer or keep something away till my trap cools down.

So it is basically decision between claw and bite in instances, do I train one of them or both and what to keep turned on and what to have hotkeyed for instancing.

I know respeccing pet is cheap but I like to have sort of permanent setup on my hotkeys no matter what I use at the moment.

Or should I just try different combos and see what works for me?

OK, now I'm not sure what exactly you want. You just want to use Screech for soloing? If so, then by all means train Bite + Claw for DPS in instances.

But if you want to use Screech when grouping, your active skillset should be
Growl (off auto)
Dive (auto)
Screech(Auto)
Bite (Auto)

You needn't worry about Screech pulling aggro on its own. If it does, your tank isn't very good at what he does.

My point is that, when you want a DPS skill to go with Screech. It's not Bite or Claw. It's Bite or nothing. Even with all the focus in the world, both these skills have no cooldown so they simply don't work together.

If you have an Owl or a Bat, they can't use Bite, and I would recommend leaving the 4th skill blank and spending the points in resistance over Claw for general purpose. Or you can use what I call the "variable owl" skillset. Which is the only reason to have both Claw and Screech on the same bar.

For soloing/trash
Growl (auto soloing/off as needed)
Dive (auto)
Screech (auto)
Claw (off auto)

For boss encounters/PvP
Growl (off auto, use as needed)
Dive (auto)
Screech (off auto)
Claw (on auto)

That lets you keep your hotkeys and not have to respec your pet. But as you're asking about Bite, I'll assume you have a Carrion Bird. In which case see paragraph 2.

Ah thanks a lot that clears it up :)

Yes, I have a carrion bird and that means Bite then. I am not at that point of perfection in playing a game to go respeccing her every instance run. I might do that later, maybe.
I have great tank, someone I have been leveling with from our first day in WoW and I never run anything without him. So aggro is not an issue, was just considering what would be more useful in terms of dps and group usefulness.
But I guess I can always pull out my cat if I want more dps.

I am fairly certain that you can learn Screech rank 11 from my mother-in-law...good luck taming her though

Rank 13 on my daughter, and trust me, you will never be able to tame her, she has both my and her mother's attitude, I can't wait to see what she is like in school -__-

Reminds me of my mother-in-law (thank God she is ex now) and older daughter. Tho the daughter was tamable to some point.

Btw I must add - I am delighted with my birdie, she dinged loyalty 6 and I trained her Bite with the rest. She holds multi aggro really good and does nice damage.
Though my tank complains about getting headache from screech >.<
