Lvling dot rotation 16+Follow

hey guys, I have a question I would like to get an answer to.
I've read the compendium before, but it doesn't seem...recent to me, so I thought I would ask here, with patches changing things all the time.

Basically my dilemma,
I'm a lvl 16 Blood Elf Warlock
I'm traveling with my imp companion, as I have not yet completed the VW Quest
I'm specking and playing affiction

I have 5/5 imp corruption to make it an instant, and(is this a mistake?) imp drain life

I find that i throw imp(fire cannon is fun) Immolate, agony, corruption.
Then just tab and next. With the imp pounding at them, I find that corruption doesn't run its full cource and is therefore a waste. If I was to take that out, what should I replace it with?

basically, how can I change this to work more effectively?
help is appricheated

p.s. Sorry bout the spelling, tired

Try this:
Corruption, CoA, Life Tap, Drain Life

Immolate really isn't all that efficient and like Mike I'd suggest replacing Immolate with Corruption if anything.

Life Tap combined with Drain Life, especially since you have the improved version of Drain Life (you're referring to Soul Siphon, right?), means almost zero downtime.

Soul Siphon makes your Drain Life stronger for every Affliction spell you have on the target. Immolate is a Destruction spell whereas Corruption and Curse of Agony are Affliction spells. Hence why I think you should replace Immolate with Corruption.

If you have Soul Siphon maxed, you'll get 5% extra effect from Drain Life per Affliction spell already on the target, so with Corruption and Curse of Agony that's 10% extra health drained with Drain Life.

I do suggest that you finish your Voidwalker quest soon, though. Using your Voidwalker as a tank really lowers downtime as you'll lose no health other than when you Life Tap.

I'm quite new to locks, but I use this sequence to good effect: Sic the Void to get aggro, then Corrupt, CofA, Immolate, and finally finish with my wand. Is this a viable alternative? I use some mana initially, but it regens while the wand is firing and I wind up even, mana wise. And the wand comes in handy when whatever I'm killing tries to run for it or decides at the last second to ignore the Void and charge. Can someone give me some feedback on this? Is this rotation bad? Is the use of a wand like this considered Taboo, effective as it might be. Please try to remember that I am very much a solo player as well. Thanks in advance.

Yes, get VW soon! Now that you're 16, the quest will be easy pie.

Try "drain hunting." It's called this because you use the VW like a hunter pet, holding agro, while you DoT the target.

On low yellows and greens I usually do this: sic vw, coa, cor, tap to gain back mana, drain to gain health, wand.

The idea is to kill steadily w/ no downtime - you should end the fight high on health and mana.

On tougher mobs do this: sic vw, coa, cor - now WAIT until second taunt lands - immolate, tap, drain, and wand if needed. Yeah, the other guys say immo is inefficient, but hey, CoA almost never runs its full course and almost never does it's "best" damage (which is at the end). But we use it anyway because when we tap and drain, we end the fight nearly full on mana and health, anyway. The idea is to get the mob killed as quickly as possible without breaking your "pace," your ability to grind consistently over a long period.

So the real answer to your question is to not worry about DoTs not running full course. Only worry about this: am I killing at a decent pace? If you drain hunt effectively, you will. If you then learn to drain tank (read compend), you will.

Also keep in mind that when using the VW, you might want to simply drop your DoTs on the mob and then wand them (get a wand that has some decent DPS) for extra damage to speed up the kill. If you do it this way, you have almost -zero- downtime between kills. If you need more DPS, you can sling in one shadowbolt before wanding, and you still won't use much mana per kill.
