Ok, this is what I'd like to know: Is there a command to get your demon to stop attacking it's target?
I'm NOT talking about setting him on stay or follow.
What I'd like to do is set him on stay on a spot, have him attack a target and with the push of a button have him run back to his spot and stay there like he would if his target dies...
Also, can you toggle autocleave on/off with a macro?

Half of my keyboard are pet hotkeys - attack, follow, stay, intercept (growl), cleave (LB) plus several macros for seduction, spell lock and so on.
Just toy with stay/attack, pressing attack once more will make your pet stop attacking and keeping passive as default will prevent him to fight back again.
You can toggle cleave off totally and learn to use it only when it suits you, manually. I do that on my hunter with growl in groups too.

I just tried this, and it didn't work. Pressing attack again did not make him stop attacking.
There must be some PetDisengage command?
If anyone wonders, I'd like to be able to place him in a specific place before a bossfight and have him run back to that spot at command.
That's because having him just run to me might not be the best thing at that encounter but I'd still have to pull him out to avoid lets say whirlwind from Maulgar or Leotheras...

/petstopattack might work, but make sure the pet is on passive. If it doesn't, try
/run petstopattack ();
For having your pet go back to a different position than by your side, it's going to depend on how the AI works. If you have your pet to stay but keep it on defensive, the AI normally has it participate in combat and then run back to its stay position when the mob is dead.
So the only way to achieve what you want is, from my point of view, that /petstopattack sends the pet back to that position.
I expect you want to keep your Felg behind the boss to avoid Cleaves and other frontal AoEs?

That is weird because it works for me just fine.
But I do keep my pets on passive as default if I am not farming - just one hit from the mob on me or him will sic him back if he is in defensive mod. Are you sure your pet is on passive?

I dont think you can hotkey that, I never tried really. I simply have cleave off and when I want to use it I press F (my hotkey for cleave).
If you want your pet to stay on one position and attacks/goes back to place try this:
Pet on passive.
Stay.
Attack.
Stop attack.
That should make him attack and then go back to same place where he was.
I dont usually do that but sometimes I pull my imp and keep him back because of AE. If I consider it safe I sic him into combat too and when its over he goes to the same place where I originally left him.

Patch 2.3 brings this:
/petautocasttoggle Cleave
In the meantime, you could always use
/petautocaston Cleave
/petautocastoff [modifier:shift] Cleave

Ok, it was *really* easy to fix it...
/petpassive overrides the attack command and he goes back to where I want him ^^

EDIT2: I just read this post again and felt perhaps I should clarify: I already have him on passive, but giving the /petpassive comman again makes him break off his attack. I didn't realize this (I thought it was a mode he was in, sort of like auto cleave).

Ah glad you figured it out.
I knew there was something about pet passive, but I play so much hunter lately that I didnt even check what exactly I have hotkeyed on lock >.<
Its all the same pet commands really, but maybe there is something bit different on lock. I dont use pet stay on hunter that much.
