I'm an extremely new hunter and new WoW player, and i'm curious in terms of CATEGORY which are the best pets for leveling/pvp/ and end game instances?

Any information would be awsome.

Consider yourself warned. You've just asked the one question that'll get you flamed quickest. Read the FAQ. Its got all that info and more. It is stickied at the top of this forum. You're due a heckling for not bothering to read that first.

Read up over at Petopia and a few other sites first and decide for yourself.

If you still want an answer, get a boar for leveling or whatever you think looks cool. It really doesn't matter all that much. Get a carrion bird with screech or a ravager with gore for instance runs, IMO. What matters most is that you understand your pets strengths and weaknesses and adjust your play style to accentuate its strengths and mitigate its weaknesses. You will only learn that by taming many beasts and trying them out.

READ THE GODAMN STICKY YOU LAZY SOB!!!!

Ok, There are 15,000,000 threads on this subject if the sticky fails and you feel you have to ask the question: ask the question in your head as you read, there is at least 1 thread per page were someboody has done like you have and bypassed everything to just say something special.

Advice:

Quit being lazy and read

Ditto

Quit at life as it is not that complicated

Ditto

LEARN TO READ!!!!

God guys I really tried hard.... bad week, need this weekend to happen...

I did read the faq.

I'm not a child so I don't appreciate you treating me like one.

I guess I missed the part where it told me this in the faq.

We all make mistakes.

If this was not the single most commonly asked question, we would have cut you slack.

And no you could not have read very far into the FAQ. This is in bold and all caps text in the very first post in the FAQ
IF YOUR QUESTION IS ABOUT PETS, GO TO THE FIRST POST ON PAGE TWO.

Do not dig yourself in any deeper.

Went back and re-read the thread again I do not see a place where it said what category's of pet's are better for certain circumstances.

Oh really? Then you didn't see this?

If you're lazy and just want an answer, use a BOAR. This is not standard advice, but boars are good all-around pets, will eat anything, and can use every general skill except Claw.

A little further down are these gems:

My pet isn't holding aggro...

Turn claw off.

My pet still isn't holding aggro.

Make sure growl is on, cower is off, and stop spamming your own abilities. There's no reason to be using multishot or stings in solo 90% of the time. Use disengage if you do happen to take aggro, like if you start with an Aimed Shot crit.

How do I use my pet in an instance?

Carefully.

Pets can easily cause wipes. Pets do not always take the same exact route you do, and might run past things you don't if you were to jump off an edge and the pet takes the long route. They also will attack things and chase runners places you don't want them to go. Keep a tight leash on your pet in an instance. They don't aggro things as easily as you do, but they still can.

Your pet will mainly be used for support damage, but you can also use it as an off-tank to protect the casters in the back from angry adds that run up to them. Be sure not to attack something that is otherwise under control, however at least now pets will break off an attack from something that becomes controlled.

See Illyanna's thread at the official boards or Meenachari's Guide to Choosing a Pet for all you could ever want to know about pet families.

All cats/bears/wolves are the same? What about elite pets?

For the mostpart, they are just the same as a non-elite pet. They lose their l33t-ness when they are tamed. There are a few specific pets out there - and not all of them are elite named mobs - that have special qualities to them. Most of the time this affects either their attack speed or their chase speed. Longtooth Runners, wolved from Feralas, run incredibly quickly. Broken Tooth, a particular rare named cat, attacks incredibly fast. A couple other pets, like King Bangalash and swamp cougars are better in both categories.

Yes, in some sense, these special pets defy the "there is no best pet" statement, but they still don't outclass everything at everything, and they are likely to be nerfed with the pending pet customization abilities. (There are more coming, like attack speed alterations.)

For learning which pets have fast attack speeds, use this link.
For a list of "special pets" that break the rules a little, check out Good Intentions, or go to Petopia for a list of popular/superior pet choices.

I think that pretty much sums it up :)

Since you obviously read the whole Sticky, you would've seen this:

Quote:
IF YOUR QUESTION IS ABOUT PETS, GO TO THE FIRST POST ON PAGE TWO.

In which case you also would have noticed this posted on Page 2:

PET-RELATED QUESTIONS

What's the best pet?

How are pets different?

Had you actually read the post in full, you would have noticed this. But since you can't read, it becomes apparent that by even my posting this information, you wouldn't use it anyway.

I think your error was assuming the FAQ would conform to your desired structure and allow you to skim it without really reading it. 'Pet category' was not used as a title therein. Correct?

#13 Oct 19 2007 at 3:49 PM Rating: Decent
Correct, I skimmed and figured there would be a designated section for pets.

Kudos to you for admitting to skimming. Grimaces at you for continuing to insist there is no section on pets in spite of all the quoted text above. I guess you were skimming all that too, hmmmm?

Now go read it, really read it. Spend a half hour to understand it. Then come back and ask your questions.

You are looking for the Out of Topic. Ask for Barkingturtle, as I have a feeling the two of you have several things in common. Bring lube.
