Where does fire fit in end game?Follow

Now I have been specced fire since day 1 since playing my mage. But now I dont see a place for fire in end game. Frost spec is for pvp.

And the way blizzard is making gear they are forcing players to go arcane for pve. And arcane we greatly out damage fire mages. Do any of you see fire becoming a useless spec?

I'm sorry? what gear are you looking at? If your going by the green drops you get that have +arcane damage you need to look a little deeper for gear. Spellfire set with the battlecast or spellstrike set is a good starter. Mix that with your pure fire or fire/arcane build and you'll be kara ready.

Im talking about tier 5 stuff. After mages in my guild get 2 pieces of tier 5 they spec arcane to get more damage. Most people that are kind of serious about raiding are at tier 5. And the mages who are in tier 5 have about 1400 dps, while mages in spellstrike/spellfire have around 900 dps.

So as you can see arcane spec beats fire spec.

Which is because of poor itemization for fire mages at T5 levels. Spellfire/Frozen Shadoweave is like Tier 4.5, 2-piece T5 will beat it out if you have appropriate mana-battery power in your group.

Once you progress past T5, you have that 4 piece to look at, which kinda shifts things in the opposite direction.

With the damage tax being removed from fire, and the cooldown on MSFD on AM spam, 10/48/3 specs are going to, once again, dominate the field for pure damage. AB/AM/Scorch is lower than AM spam in 2.2 and competitive with (but not definitely better than) 10/48/3, but in 2.3 it looks like 10/48/3 will pull fire back to #1 with AB/AM/Scorch being below that and AM spam in third place.

I am not sure that AB * 2, AM spam will be bad after 2.3 as the mana regen increase will keep you in mana. With the MSD not proccing as often, but more 'regular', you can always hit AM when it procs as opposed to now, when sometimes it procs back to back to back (your threat jumps up a ton, as I was running with BoW instead of BoS due to the 40% threat reduction from arcane).

Did this last night in kara with my mage (hesitantly), but found out that I did fine with my 49/12/0 spec. I topped the meters above 2 rogues and 2 locks (which was way fun). Even during nightbane, which I was probably the most afraid of due to the length of it, I didn't run out of mana. Had a shammy with mana tide and 2 evocations to use + pots and gems. With the increase in arcane meditation as well as the improvment to evocation, arcane is still viable in kara. ;-) I am not sure if I would do as much damage as fire or not (10/48/3) as I would lose some spell damage and arcane gives you a bunch of +hit too. I had around 1140 spell damage and it was *hot*.

I'm going to keep my spec until a run or two after the patch, then respec to 10/48/3 and see how it goes.
