Jenovaomega, I think it was you that once said 1% spell hit = like 18 spell damage?
I was wondering if you had the numbers for exact conversions? How much hit = how much dmg, how much crit = how much damage.
I know I've seen those numbers somewhere, but I cant remember where.
The reason I ask, is because I was recently asked why i put 3 +9 spell damage gems in my Voidheart Robe. My first response was that im sitting at a decent amount of hit and didn't need the socket bonus. But...should I have put hit gems in it? I could go back and put 2 Veiled Pyrestones in it, as I'm pretty sure that 5 hit > 3 dmg...I think.

Honestly, this is by far the weakest part of my warlock knowledge. I would greatly, greatly appreciate any direct advice you or another member could share with me. Like, I have 4 Potent Ornate Topaz gems right now too, should I replace those with hit gems until 202 hit?

Basically, I'm questioning my choice in gems. Im at 25% crit, 173 hit (13.71%). Should I have gem'd +hit instead of +dmg? And/or +hit instead of +crit?

IDK the exact numbers, all I know is my shadowbolts crit from anywhere between 200-500 more when I run on capped hit rather than +75 or so spell damage.

it depends on spec and spell. for me dr.damage was saying for SB, 1% more hit was equivilant to 18 more +damage. so yeah. get the mod and check what you need to check

giveitatry.. +hit will not increase your crit damage. +75 damage will, hit doesn't affect damage. it affects resists

A high hitrating is nice to have on bossfights because even a low hit is more than a resist ;)

Seeing high numbers is teh sexeh and all that, but getting resists hurts your total dmg output and that's what matters...

indeed. 'tis why on trash mobs I have on trash mobs (5% resist chance) 1162 +damage, 27.31% crit and 83 hit rating while on bosses (before buffs) I have 1100 +damage, 24% crit and 202 +hit (16.01%, a.k.a the hit cap). mimising your chance to resist is the best dps increase possible, you need 3% for equal level mobs, 4% lvl.71, 5% lvl.72 and 16% lvl.73 (bosses)

That I know Jenova, but can't crits be partially resisted?? Otherwise I have no idea why my crits are bigger when I have full + hit gear, which bring me down about 75 spell damage. I might have to get this Dr.damage tool to see what's going on.

crits can be partiallys resisted BUT +hit shouldn't play a factor in partial resists except for binary spells which can't be partially resisted anyways. resistace affects partial resists.
