Go to wow-loot.com That website has great build set-ups for all classes. If nothing else its a starting point to determine how you want to move into the affliction tree. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=NVMriRfzqtbo0xcZxx0z
that is a good build for endgame...gives you unstable affliction with some improved SB and Shadowburn...thing with this build is...it requires a fair bit of +shadow damage (at least above 600)

The build DJ posted is actually very similar to mine. Only thing is i don't use Imp CoA as I used to like having apoint in Shadow Embrace, with the change to that next patch I will probably put that 1 point into Imp CoA and move 1 point from Suppression to CoA making my Affl tree look just like that.

In the Demo tree though, the extra mana on you Imp can be helpful for Dark Pacting, but I found it to be a bit over the top. Seeing you still have Imp Life Tap, you shouldn't need that extra 3% on yourself and 15% on him. I prefer having Imp. Imp as the Sta from Blood Pact help me have more to Life Tap from and helps your group in Instances and Raids.

Just my thoughts.

The linked build kinda sucks for endgame, buts its great for farming.
No destructive reach, malediction or Imp HS. 5 pts in fel concentration is a waste for raiding or heroics. No points in Supression but 2 in Imp CoA. And FFS no points in Devastation. Terrible build

What do you want the build to be used for? PvP? Raids? 5 mans? LvLing? I would choose a different aff build for each of those :(

Not to sidetrack the thread, but what are they changing next patch? I know MS will affect drain life, but what else?

Shadow Embrace will no longer trigger other effects.

Destructive Reach is not really a requirement, sure it's nice, but not required. Malediction is not needed by ALL the locks in a Raid only 1 or 2, CoA actually IS recommended for any locks above 2. Imp HS is WAY overated and definately not needed in Raids, it is nice though if you have one lock with 2/2, one lock with 1/2 and one lock with none, then everyone gets 3 HS. 5 points in Fel Concentration is ok, how else do you expect to get to UA? Again, Devastation is not needed.

That build is almost a cookie cutter UA build and very useful in end-game raiding. Once you have the gear for it, yes, a Destro build CAN out DPS it, but you must have 25% +crit from gear alone, if you do not, then that build IS actually probably the best build possible, unless you one CoE/CoS duty.

Imp HS not a req? If your locks all produce 0pt HS that is 4700 health the raid is missing out on and that is pretty significant. Raid heals become a real strees for healers and not maximizing the raids ability to heal itself is bad strat. Destructive reach is a requirment, enjoy lurker with out being able to SB from the Islands. Idelay you have 2 locks with Malediction so no its not a requirment you just need to have a raid leader that lets the newb with lesser gear not be on malediction duty :P. And it is pretty easy to get 40 pts in afflic w/o any in fel concentration and yes it is a waste for a pure end game build.

The thing is, first of all, we don't know that he is end-game raiding for sure. If he is, then the linked build will get him started, and it will be up to his guilds raid leader or class leader whether or not he needs to take those points. The build will get him started, and get him there. The things you said that are required, while it is required that a lock in the raid has them, not ALL locks need them. If not EVERY 'lock needs it, then it isn't a requirement for a basic build. That is the only point I was making.

When I give advice, I am merely trying to point in the right direction, and as I stated, that is an excellent starting point. IF he's going to be raiding, I'm sure he'll ask more questions, or get the advice from his guild.
