Frost Spec Leveling - spell rotationFollow

I have a lvl 19 mage and I chose to level with a Frost Spec so I can get used to this playstyle when I get him to higher levels. I've read Fire is faster for leveling, and I've played with it on my lvl 29 mage; however, I'm in no hurry to hit 70.

I'm curious what spell rotation I should be using while I level with a Frost spec. Should I just spam Frost Bolt and Frost Nova till the mob is dead, or should I mix in some fire and/or arcane spells.

I get Blizzard at lvl 20 and Cone of Cold (CoC) at lvl 26. I'm guessing I won't use Blizzard unless I'm trying to AoE grind, but CoC looks like a spell I could work in as a normal damage spell. Ice Lance looks like a fun spell, but I have a long way to reach lvl 67.

Usually, I only use Frost bolt and Frost nova just to save mana. Instant-casts, while they do kill mobs faster, do take up quite a bit of mana.

So, i normally spam Frost Bolt, FN when in contact, run and FB. Shatter crits from FN kills them easily.

While talking about leveling, don't mind if i hijack this a bit. =D

But do mages tend to have alot of critical strike rate while leveling? I'm kinda embarrassed to say i only have 5.something%, while my 31 druid has 13.something%.

Is this normal?

Well, until about 60, my mage had maybe 6% crit rate (almost all green equipment). Now, at 61, she has 14%.

Add to that the 5% for Frostbolts, 50% from Shatter and (after 5 hits) 10% from Arctic Winds.



I'm not saying it's extremely good, just that my crit rate shot up in Outland. Also, at 62, I'm getting boots and bracers of the Invoker, which will bring the crit up by another 2%.
