Paladins have reduced healing threat?Follow

#1 Oct 19 2007 at 3:57 AM Rating: Decent
I was reading this page:

http://evilempireguild.org/guides/kenco2.php

I came across this little blurb:

Quote:
(D) Paladin
Paladins receive 50% threat from healing compared to other healers. This is designed to stop them tanking instances by healing everything in sight. As a side affect, this gives them a decent advantage over other healers where healing threat is an issue.

However, asides from this article (and a small reference on wowwiki that probably sources this article), I have never heard about this threat mechanic.

Can anyone confirm or shed some light?

It's right. Paladins do half the threat per heal of other healers.

Yup.

Holy pallies should never pull healing aggro. Not sure if it's designed to stop them from tankin, since casting really messes with that uncrusable thing XD. When casting you cant block, that would make it hurt.

On a multimob pull with a warrior tank who isn't exactly good at grabbing several mobs' attention, it happens :D

Holy pallies should never pull healing aggro, assuming a competent tank.

On a side note, yeah they decided to make healing threat 50% compared to all other healing classes because they were afraid paladins would just use heal threat to hold aggro. It doesn't really apply end-game, however while leveling up I could see it as viable if healing threat was the same as everyone else's.

All heals cause 50% threat. So if a priest healed a tank for 2000, it would be like hitting the mob for 1000 damage.

Paladin heals are 50% of 50%, 1/4 aggro so if a Holy Paladin healed a tank for 2000 it would be like hitting the mob for 500.

Pretty much common knowledge.

I don't think the Paladin healing threat scaling knowledge is as common as you think. It's been news to quite a few of my fellow players.

Anyway, thanks to all for the replies. I knew I could count on a response from this community.

Holy Pallies get mana back for crit heals. Therefore, A lot of pallies tend to load on more crit gear than other healers. You need the extra threat reduction if your critting all the time.

no not really, you're only going to heal whatever they take in damage, crit or no crit. You dont get threat for overhealing.

Smiley: nod

Overhealing generates no threat. The more you know!
