This happened to me a few days ago and I been waiting for the chance to post it, glad that I finally have a few spare moments to waste here on Alla when I should be doing work.

I was on my pvp alt (29 hunter *BOO! HISS!*) when I noticed that someone was shouting they needed a tank for OHB, recalling that I still needed a few drops from there (the ring off the liuetenant and the body armor off of the captain) I decided to bust out my paladin and give it a go. The party setup was me (prot spec pallie), warlock, mage, rogue, and my healer was a holy spec pallie.

Things went exceptionally smooth for the whole run, with the succubus, a rogue, and a mage CC was abundant so the pulls were remarkably easy (marked a mob for sap, seduce, and polymorph) and we did not even have a near wipe. We were doing fine though we struggled at the part where you rescue Thrall and he simply charges in to all the groups, not giving you a chance to rest and recover, but with coordination and our CC we kept things under control and down the Captain with no trouble.

We get to Tarren Mills, smooth sailing until we reach the Epoch Hunter. For those that are unfamiliar with the instance, you fight waves of dragonkin and right after the boss attacks you. A bit of lag caught us though in the last wave before boss, I go down, the rest of the group and Thrall manage to take down all of the Dragonkin and the pallie immediately rezzes me as the last mob goes down. I run in to the church to try and get as much mana as I can before the boss comes down. I start eating and drinking, wishing my hp/mana bar would go up faster. Thrall is holding his own until the Lock pulls hate and gets her face eaten off, cursing to myself I run to the boss with only 3/4 health and mana and use righteous defense and holy shield and then Judge SoR to get threat back, it works and I manage to hold him, the rogue gets caught in his breath attack and then he goes down, the Epoch hunter does his knockback before I could judge SoR and for a few seconds the mage pulls threat and is also eaten.

So then it's just me, Thrall, and the other Holy Paladin. The Epoch hunter is swinging at me, I am watching his HP bar and doing what I can to hold threat while the other pallie keeps me alive, to ease his burden I need to heal myself as well. Both our mana is near gone and I get at 1%, BOOM, lay on hands myself so I am back up to full and that gives me the mana for another holy light. I noticed then that my healer kept getting a weird DoT on himself and a short time later he goes down with the Epoch Hunter at 5%. I am watching my mana at this point, getting holy light off when I can, 4%... 3%... 2%... Holy light... his hp is still going down, we are both at 1%, BOOM, Divine Shield, the Epoch hunter turns to Thrall, me and him are swinging, I don't even have the mana for another heal and forgot to bring any bandages, Shield timer, 4... 3... 2... 1... BOOM! Thrall gets the final hit and the monster dies.

I can say honestly, my group was shocked and didn't believe I managed to pull it off... hell I can't believe I pulled it off. I was just glad Thrall was there for the constant DPS and the killing blow which he has to have anyway. So yeah, that was my story, just wanted to share it, probably gonna go back tonight to get that tanking ring.

Any other close calls to share?

Yeah those are always awesome when they happen, similar stories have happened to me in SP (Reg) and Mech (Heroic) actually the last 2 times I did mech, I was the last man standing on the Nethermancer fight, with DS up and me getting that last swing in before bubble wore off. To this day I have never died on her in either reg or heroic, and I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible.

Congrats on the kill, did you get either of the drops you wanted?

Ok, I got one. I was tanking Heroic Slave Pens and were on a group of 4 shortly after Rokmar the Crackler. You know where the big 5 mob pull is, that has 2 pathers (I think they're Defenders)? Right behind there. Anyway, pull went sour REAL fast as I got feared right from the start, and all 3 of my DPS died with only one of the caster mobs down. That left myself and my Holy Priest to deal with 3 mobs. Everyone figured we'd wipe, and I must say, I thought we had no chance. Till I remembered something: there's a little "ledge" right there near the cages where the mobs will run towards the middle of the room a bit instead of going straight down. So using that to my advantage gave my healer a few seconds here and there to keep me healed.

So here I am, spamming Holy Shield and Consecration: one mob goes down, woot! 2 to go. Feared, but luckily the mobs were up top of that "ledge" so the fear wore off and I was able to taunt before they could kill my healer. Another mob down with just my DPS, woot woot! Just left with a caster mob now, my mana is almost completely gone, and my healer was down under 1k as well. Popped Lay on Hands when I dropped under 1k health, then we finally killed that last mob with no mana left to speak of.

Kept getting comments from everyone: "OMG you're a beast!" "Wow, I thought we were screwed for sure, nice job!" "Paly DPS FTW!" hehe, made me feel pretty darn good I must say :) So, to all you Ret paladins out there: if you wanna DPS, go Prot :P

EDIT: couple typos.

Something like that happened to me while I was doing the Cruel Intentions quest in Hellfire Peninsula. I get really cocky when I have my Holy Paly friend with me, I am prot, and I feel like I can take anything. So I suggested we do it without waiting for my enhancement shaman friend, since he is a pushover he agrees. We head over, no problems, pull all of the mobs near Arazzius the Cruel, no problems, finally we get to him, keep in mind that I was a level 61 and my friend was 64.

I get to him and drop all of my normal stuff on him, and then he hits me... with a pyroblast, 2000 damage, I only have around 6000, so I am kind of weak in the knees, but I figure we'll be fine, my friend has 8000+ mana. We both have our resistance auras on to slow down shadow bolt and pyroblast damage. It starts to get ugly when I realize he has 40,000+ health and as prot my dps sucks to say the least.

Several minutes into the fight a mob respawns, no big deal, I move around a little to make sure I'm facing it. I fall into a tiny pit in the middle of the platform he stands on, not very deep, no big deal, turns out that it was deep enough to put me out of my healer's line of sight. He starts screaming "I can't heal you!" over and over again, I am being pounded on all the while, massive damage. I get down to 61 hp, that's not a typo, 61 hp. I am frantically pounding my LoH and praying. He only has like 10% health.

LoH goes off and I fly out of the pit, absolutely terrified, and down him a couple of minutes later. Scariest battle I've ever been in, my friend popped all of his cooldowns 3 or four times, used two Super Mana Potions and still only had about 10% mana left.

Just thought that I'd share while this thread was floating around. :)
