Destro lock, which minion?Follow

I'm wondering which minion is best to level a 61 Destro lock, soloing most of the time.

Would it be an imp with 3/3 Improved Imp and 2/2 Improved Firebolt? This gives Blood Pact and good dps. Or the VW with 3/3 Improved VW (or not?). He will hold aggro a bit and gives the opportunity to drain hunt to replenish when needed, plus the bubble when you're in trouble. Finally the Succy, without the Improved Succubus talents though. Good dps, CC capability.

Your advices are welcomed and also let me know if the Improved talents are worthwhile or not from a Destro lock point of view. This is basically the point of my post, should I spend talent points to have a better minion and if yes which...

BTW at this point I plan to spend 38 points in the Destro tree, enough to get Backlash, Conflagrate and Soul Leech. This will help you figure out how many "free points" I have.

A last question on the AfterMath talent, is it a good talent for solo leveling or I should pass? Note that I'll take Bane in any cases.

Thanks!

An unbuffed VW is usually good enough to DoT up and SB the enemy to death. If you find your SB's pulling too early, let him taunt an extra time or two before you start them.

I have improved imp and firebolt, as well as improved succubus and lash of pain, but those are mostly for groups. A destro lock only needs his demon to give him about 10 seconds of free casting time on a standard target.

The void is your best bet to solo as a destro lock. Your imp is worthless he'll go OOM and compared to the damage/per mana he sucks. Just pull your void, let him go in and get two taunts then go all out.

Use Voidwalker for leveling unless you can chain-Seduce a Humanoid with Succubus.

I see you're only 61, so my advice is aimed a little bit into the future for you.

Once you've got a mild level of +spelldamage and +crit (crafted tailoring epics cover this) 41 pts in Destro to get Shadowfury will allow you to effectively go pet-less against most mobs. Stand at max range and fire off two shadowbolts, then drop a shadowfury on it and run a few yards away and chain cast shadowbolts until it's dead. If you've got backlash and soul siphon, taking a few hits from a normal mob is hardly a thing to be afraid of. I tend to play this way because I'm too lazy to summon a voidwalker to kill the random mobs around my herb nodes. This strategy has downsides when fighting around neutral mobs or where the mobs are dense, for the obvious reasons.

I didn't play quite like this before I hit 70, but I know my crit chance while I was leveling was much higher than it is now due to the way rating scales; this may be a viable tactic before 70 if you have been collecting the +crit items.

To be slightly more on topic, upside of being capable pet-less is that you can use whatever pet best suits the situation. Felpup if you're around casters or mobs that have irritating curses, Succy for humanoids (this strat works on many players, too, who simply charge headlong towards you) since you don't use DoTs because the fights are so short, Voidwalker for when you're tired of playing like a mage.

I have a warlock that has been destruction since day one even though destruction probably levels slower than the other two talent specs. I have used the Voidwalker the entire time to keep the mobs off of me. Any point into any of the improved pets isn't really necessary in my opinion. I think they just waste points u could be using for somethin else.

I'm a pet spec, but Void is definately the way to go for hunting - I send him in to get aggro, cast my three dots, eat my own hand and then drain the health right back to myself - mob usually dies a second or so after the life drain ends - often don't even have time to get any shots off with my wand.
