Same with if a DPS dies because they pulled aggro.
I agree, but I have to qualify this one - it really depends on circumstances. If that pet is tanking something that would be whacking me next, the pet gets heals - especially felguard! If he's tanking better than the MT (which judging from some of the threads here we've all seen) he might even live longer than the MT. Same for dps - if the MT gets stunned or has his aggro wiped for something that isn't his fault (and an awful lot of boss fights seem to have that in the script nowadays), many of the dpsers I know can tank pretty well for a few seconds just by running and gunning, and if I can keep up with the healing, he might be able to keep alive until the tank is back in the game. And there are a lot of fights against mobs or bosses that have aoe damage built into them, and if the tank isn't taking up too much of my attention, it's a lot more efficient for me to toss a heal on the pet and let the owner worry about dps than to have him spend mana (for a hunter) or his own health and channel time (for a warlock), or even to let the pet die and lose all that extra dps.
But yeah, if he shouldn't have aggro to begin with, pet or human, when he's dead that's one less thing I have to worry about, and he's liable to die pretty quick.
