"I melee so I can keep up wing clip"
"Dude, you get way more DPS in from range"
"Yeah, but wing clip slows their movement and attack speed"
"Are you retarded or just dumb?"

Oh yeah, and she had a survival hunter on a different server, which she said "On my other hunter wing clip stuns them."

Ouch.

/target -> volleyshot. Does it do any good? No, but it makes me feel better to shoot people when they say truly DUMB stuff like that!

Ah, but have you ever won a duel by wing clipping? I once won a duel with a druid by wing clipping and trapping to bandage, eventually the guy just gave up after a few minutes.

It can immobilize if they have the talents in it. Low percentage chance to do so but since you can wing clip every 1.5 seconds, eventually you're going to get lucky.

I'd have asked her to point out where it says that Wing Clip slows their attack speed. As far as I know, it's just a movement speed thing. If I'm wrong and their is an attack speed debuff with it...meh...good to know. If I'm right, then the next logical point to the discussion is to ask her what the benefit to slowing their movement speed might be if you let the mob just stand there and whack the snot out of you (or the tank) anyways.

Not that logic is a reliable counter to weak strategy.

Well, Wing Clip's accuracy is based off your weapon skill. If you're 50+ levels from your skill cap, you're not gonna land it when you need it to. Lord knows, Hunter's are only a smidge slower in killing in melee then in ranged, anyhow. Long as the pet is tanking.

ive heard a worse reason for meleeing, a NELF hunter was in a group with me in BRD a while back and he kept meleeing the mobs. so i asked hey are u out of ammo cause ive got some extra. he said and i quote "no i dont use ranged weapons i want my hunter to be like drizzt". after having a mild stroke from not having something to say because i was so stunned i asked him to at least get out his pet (didnt want to deal with finding another), and he sayys he couldnt find a black panther so he didnt have one of those either.... for the love of GOD is it that hard to learn your class!

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, so I'll offer both responses:

You're being sarcastic: Bwahahaha! Jolly good show, old chap! You had me going for a second there!

You're not being sarcastic: Ugh. Not even close. Hunters have so few additional melee abilities to augment their melee damage that even an Arcane Shot every 6 seconds + Serpent Sting at the start of a fight is going to give them a massive edge in ranged dps over melee. I leveled my Polearm skill from 0-345 in a little over an hour in Terrokar simply by setting my pet to tank Basilisks and then spamming Wing Clip on them every time the cooldown was up. It then took me over two weeks of almost nightly instances to cap my Polearm skill at 350 because I use melee attacks so infrequently.

If you look at true melee dps classes like Warriors, Rogues, Shaman, and Feral Druids, they have a ton of abilities (just like we have numerous shots/stings) so they're relying on way more than white damage to do their jobs. That's all a melee Hunter really has is white damage.

Oh....I only see hunters melee with there Corpsemaker with Fiery Weapon because they seem to run out of ammo everytime I pt with them..I avoid them after 35 unless guildies.

Wow... And I've been scolded for running in to raptor/wing clip'ing a monster when they got really close to me... and then running back out into range.

Heh, I've run in and laid a snake trap under some mobs which our tank had effective control over and been griped at for that too.
