voidwalker Follow

Hi

I have affection build and today for tanking I’m using the Voidwalker.
I understand that felguard is much better tank then Voidwalker but is it worth some much talent points?
BTW I’m doing PvE most of the time.

Depends on your level and your playstyle. If you're using a pet to tank then yes i would spec felguard but he isn't great until around level 54-58. That's when he gets some great spells.

The VW can be just as good a tank, if not better than the Felguard in some cases. Drain Hunting is still a very viable playstyle with a mostly Affliction build. A few points in the Demo Tree are extremly helpful though, and you do have to be very careful to not pull aggro off your VW. While the Felguard can hold aggro better as he can dish out way more damage, he also has less sta and health, so you have to use Health Funnel much more often on him.

Affection build, haha..

Anyway, if you're *Affliction*, you won't have a felguard anyway. It takes a full 41 points in Demonology. Maybe a felhunter, but those are more for PVP, groups, or when you know how to have them be hit enough to get 4-5 stacks of tainted blood before the target comes your way without getting him killed all the time.

Voidwalkers are perfectly good soloing tanks. It's what they are there for, entirely.

I know that if I will use Affliction build I will not be able to use felguard but I just want to understand if I should leave Affliction build in order to use felguard.

As you have to fully commit to Demo to use (effectively) the Felguard, I would say that your choice is entirely based on your own play-style.

Personally, the VW's torment has always been nice (I have imp vw) as I'm an affliction lock - he hold's aggro for 1/2-3/4 of the mob's life, at which time it's very easy to drain-tank/tap. You'll find that there are times (level wise), when his torment doesn't keep up with your dps, so you should modify your spell rotation to take this into account. It's also especially useful if someone tries to gank you - pop bubble, fear, coe, run - or fight). It also allows you to take out 6-7 mobs at a time (dot dot dot... iHoT... refresh dots... bubble... drain).

You also rarely have to spend downtime - as consume shadows or health-funnel (with the fact that you're taking little damage, and drain-hunting), leaves you and it in good shape for the next fight.

Dps wise... the vw is like a dot 10-15 levels below you. If you want pvp/survivability, Demo is a great spec; since you said you mainly pve, this isn't a spec that fits my playstyle.

Also, it'll suck having to spend money to continually respect (because few raid guilds prefer a demo lock over an affl. lock - excluding pvp where demo is more viable.

Well i was aff until lvl 40 or 50 whenever u get the felgaurd and then went demon for the felgaurd. It helps with questing and lvling. I used the felgaurd the whole time until i was lvl 68 and then i respected back to aff. I do miss my felgaurd. He makes killing mobs so much easier. Like ppl say when u arent demon spec u have to watch the aggro pull off your void.

You can always go back to affection - affliction - if you don't like the felguard.

The Felg is very powerful, but he's a little weaker than the VW.

You have to have some mana feed talent to keep him cleaving - and thus to max his dps. Talents that buff him help a lot. You have to heal him - Imp Health Funnel is nec.

Dig way back and see if you can find old posts on the felguard and how to play him. You need to do lots of reading and research - see if you think you'd like him. Then, make sure you have a good build and give it a go. And yes, he's a little weak til you get closer to 60.

Sorry, I'm tired of typing the same info over and over. Search. The answers are a few months back to a year on this forum. GL!
