Priest ProffesionsFollow

#1 Oct 16 2007 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
Alright I recently just made a Priest. I'm extremely new to WoW and i'm wondering what it the most effective/effecient/best proffesions for a priest?

I'm going Shadow at least until I can...get some good gear for later and start raiding and go healer or something.

Anyways, yeah?

If its your first char and you want cash, then take herb and skinning or mining and skinning. then you can gather resources and sell them on the ah.

Alchemy can be quite a good all-rounder as the pots are pretty handy and can be sold too.

Tailoring is a major plus for a priest as a great healing set and a great shadow set can both be made from trainer supplied patterns. (Primal Mooncloth or Frozen Shadoweave), there are also other epic patterns for some great healing and damage stuff. This tends to be paired with enchanting so you can dust the stuff you make, but I found it went well with skinning, as some patternes need leather and you can sell any you don't need

For PvP you may want to think about engineering to up your damage, but that is a major expense even with mining as the support profession.

LW and BS are pointless for a priest really as you'll never use anything you make.

For myself i had gathering proffesions till 70 (skinning, herbing,..)

At 70 i recommend to switch to Tailoring, because you can make your self a epic sets contains of 3 parts. Those 3 craftable items are very impressive, and at least for holy even better then the T4 set (i dont know for shadow, but i guess its the same).

Along with Tailoring you may want a bit Enchanting (can be done on a alt thoug) do disenchant the greens/blues you made with tailoring.

Welcome in the Priest world !

The holy tailoring items are better than tier 4, about on par with tier 5, and without the set bonus (a very important factor) the stuff coming out of ZA is better. For shadow, the FSW shoulders are replaced by Tier 5 for the T5 set bonus, the chest isn't replaced till Tier 6, and the boots are hands down the best in the game.

I'd stick with herbalism and another gathering profession early on. Once you get very high levels (at least 60 and maybe 70), drop the non-herbalism one for tailoring, and possibly drop herbalism for enchanting, though the latter requires more thought.

I had JC/mining up to level 60, when I dropped the mining to take up tailoring, so I can make the PMC set at 70.

Now I can rely on my guildies to mine my mats for JC and concentrate on tailoring. I've leveled it from 0-290 in just a couple days without spending too much gold, so I'd also suggest keeping two gathering profs in your lower levels. (Wish I have never taken JC, it's a pain to level. My alts are doing much better with gathering profs!)

On my server, herbs are by FAR the most profitable, and skinning is ridiculously easy to level. Between the two you should have more than enough to keep up with your class training and get your first mount.

You WILL want to switch one out for tailoring no matter if you go holy or shadow, so I'd start stashing away cloth on an alt bank. Which one you drop will depend mostly on your server's economy

Also, don't foget the secondary profession of first aid! You'll get more than enough cloth to make bandages and have plenty put away for tailoring later. First aid is practically a must for any class, even healers. If you're OOM and still in the middle of a fight, it can make the difference between a wipe and survival!!!

I'd recomend doing skinning/herbalism until 70 and then do tailoring/skinning or tailoring/herbalism. If you go tailoring/enchanting you're going to spend a lot of money to skill both of those up at the end game. Tailoring you'll use as a priest but enchanting you could find someone to do most of the enchants for you. But then again at 70 money is easier to come by so it might not be as big of a deal.

I've only gotten my priest to 60.
I've several lower level alts in other classes (38, 29,26, 22, 26, 16)
Have tried all professions other than jewel crafting.

I strongly recommend two of the three gathering professions (skinning, minig, herbalism) to at least level 60.
If you don't mind not getting a mount and usually being broke, try anything.

I have decided skinning and herbalism makes the most sense. I don't.
I have done mining and herbalism. It is a lot harder to level up mining.

300 at herbalism at 53, 284 mining at 60.
Have an auction house alt (or two--I've two accounts so I have alts to buy and sell from alliance to horde and vice versa)

You will be able to buy a mount or two, good gear and have at bit of money left over if you do this.
If you craft early on--it's much harder.
Want gear? AH or trade channel. Many professionals offer services for a reasonable cost on my server (Eonar).

Only alchemists aren't out peddling. AH treats them well for specific potions and elixirs.

You can repect at endgame for any specific items you may want later.

Thsi seems similar to the other posters, who have watched mistakes or weem what may or not work well through the game.

All the best

Good gaming, Be well.

I really wish someone had told me this when I started out. I asked what profs to take, and unanimously, "tailoring and enchanting!"

If I saw those people again, I would probably shoot them -_-

Enchanting is fine as long as you're not actually trying to *enchant* something. Disenchanting, however, is a great money-maker. And it's very nice to be able to disenchant soulbound blues and greens rather than vendor-trashing them.

It can be but for beginners then skinning with herbalism or mining is a much easier way to make money.

The flaw with this is that once you get to about 25 in Enchanting, you no longer get skill ups from disenchanting. You'll have to actually do the enchants to move your skill up so you can de the blues and greens that you'll be getting.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the highest Enchanting level requirement I remember seeing to disenchant an item was 275. If that's correct, leveling the enchanting that far shouldn't be too hard, and you DO make a pretty penny selling the dusts and essences.

its 300 for some 70 items. but yah its expesnive if you don't use enchantrix, better off getting skin/(mine or herb)..

at 70 I have no clue..what would be the best for dps and what would be best for holy? Any? my priest is still low and haven't even put any time into looking yet (oo flames!)

Tailoring should be gotten (eventually) whether you intend to DPS or heal. Frozen Shadoweave is itemized so incredibly well that there are possible upgrades off the first Eye boss and last SSC boss, but no definite upgrades until Hyjal and Illidan. The boots aren't really replaced, ever. For healers it's not quite so crazy, especially with the new stuff that's appearing out of Zul'Aman when it goes live, but is still incredibly good.

If you're really into min-maxing, there's an enchanter-only +12dmg and +20healing enchant for rings, making it the other best option for both DPS and healing. However, it's probably worth holding off on leveling that until you level tailoring, preferably level 60+. Leveling tailoring and enchanting together give nice synergy, since you can DE 90% of the tailoring stuff you make and use it to level enchanting :D
