We talked about this in a thread a while back but the thread got bumped down 3 or 4 pages.

I did some searching and put together a list of gear for level 70 rogues that does not require any raids or any heroic dungeons.

Basically it's a list of gear to shoot for to get you ready for Kara and heroic dungeons.

If anybody has any suggestions for any of the slots feel free to let me know.

Helm of the Claw
Natasha's Choker
Talbuk Hide Spaulder (Horde)
Blackened Leather Spaulder (Alliance)
Hauberk of Karabor
Veteran’s Leather Bracers
Handgrips of Assassination
Naaru Belt of Precision
Fel Leather Leggings
Fel Leather Boots
Slayer’s Mark of Redemption
Kaylaan’s Signet (Aldor only)
Band of Anguish (2nd ring if you’re Scryer’s
Abacus of Violent Odds
Hourglass of the Unraveller

Edited to put in Natasha's Choker...for some reason when I was searching for neck pieces that one didn't come up.

good luck getting the assassination pieces to drop. 8 runs of SL and I'm still looking for my pants.

I have done 23 Mech runs. It was 18 before I saw the chest, and I and yet to see the Abacus of Violent Odds.

13 runs in at Dark Portal, never seen Lastro's or the trinket.

I've the hourglass and the chest. oddly enough the chest dropped on my first run.
now I really have to find a @#$@ blue pants that will drop. if not I'll have to go grab the long quest pants.

Helm of the claw is better than stealther's helm of second sight IMO, even if it is fugly. Helm of the claw is also easier to obtain, 1 instance run as opposed to a beefy quest chain.

I originally had Helm of the Claw as the helm on my list. Then when i figured out gemming Stealther's with the best blue gems you could get the DPS was a little better. Helm of the Claw is a nice one to get though because with the meta gem slot you can socket it where it is good for PVE and PVP.

Have seen it drop only once. And yes ofcourse, that was when I was in a group with another rogue who did his first SL-run, and yes ofcourse he got the pants. :(

But hey, cheer up, I bought the Fel Leather Pants (are better anyway) and got my trinket on my very first BM-run.

You should read the official loot guide from Blizzard. It's actually quite informative:

1) A Blizzard instance will examine entire makeup of a 5-man group.
2) The instance will drop an item for whatever the other 4 classes are.
3) If the instance makes a mistake and drops a rogue item for a rogue, the instance will then continue to drop the same item every time that rogue is in the instance.

Nope, I am pretty sure Helm of the Claw exceeds Stealther's. There are better Shouulderpads than Assassination's, Abacus and Hourglass not as good, I personally rather have 2 trinkets that boost AP for more damage during AR phase.

My personal experience with loot and dungeons is that I usually get whatever I need in terms of quests and attunement on the first run, but never sniff any of the weapons or Assassination pieces till the 50th run and no that is not an exaggeration by any means.

Sorry about that. I was doing some VERY "creative math" to make the Stealther's Helm better than Helm of the Claw. (I don't even know if I could describe in words what I did to come up with that)

Also changed the spaulders because for some reason the ones I have up there now did not show up on my initial search for gear. Maybe because they are vendor purcahsed, I don't know.

but everyone knows stealthers gets 25 aep for looking half decent haha

but in ALL seriousness

======

gem the stealthers with blue quals, and gem the claw with blue qual and meta gem

you get

stealthers:
24 stam
28 agi
76 ap
25 hit

claw:
21 stam
37 agi
66 ap
22 hit (plus +3% extra crit bonus)

its really more of a side grade, claws only a lil ahead

but for our frugal rogues, you only lose a lil stats by using green gems (5g gemming costs)

but to be cheap on claw, its gonna cost u min. 80g or 18 spirit shards

i think stealthers is better for the bargain rogue, while claw edges it out a lil for ease to get and if its no object kinda cash

Yeah after I did the "correct math" I realized Claw was only a little bit ahead. And to be honest I really wasn't sure what meta-gem to put in the Claw.

12 agi, 3% extra crit dmg

is my pve gem of choice, it was on par of the haste one i think before the nerf, so now = woots, although i wont lie... i dunno if that gem got nerfed or not, so shrug

I'm pretty happy with the hourglass. it continually scales with gear rather than most other equipment that gives you a preset bonus. also I keep forgetting to activate the items that have an activation so it's semi limited usage there.

If you don't like the hourglass and the abacus you can always go with Bladefists's Breadth and Core of Arkelos.

I just wanted to point out that the Talon Lord's Collar (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29335;source=live) is actually a bit better than The Choker until you hit or go over the Hit Rating you'll need for Kara. An extra 11 hit on the Collar goes a long way towards making you Kara ready.

Of course as soon as the 11 hit is compensated by the rest of my gear I'm going straight to the Choker.

I've done Shadow Labs. about 20 times trying to get the assassination legs, they have only dropped once. I was the only rogue in the party, started doing my 'I got cool loot dance' (seated) and needed, only to be beaten by an enhancement shammy ... I stopped dancing the cool loot dance (seated) at that point, and began the 'Lament Of No Cool Loot' song.

when i started raiding i just made sure i had 70 hit rating min and around 1000 ap unbuffed.

instead of posting specific gear, post pre-requisited for raiding.

not everyone wants to get gear by pvping or through certian instances.

Very nice list, more or less what I was wearing myself.
I stronly support the choice of the Claw helm - the metagem is the main advantage over the stealther helm. If gemmed with the +3% crit damage metagem, it shows on the DPS calculator as better than some epic helms.

The only thing I would add that if you are going to more difficult places, then I would sacrifice a little of the AP in favor of stamina. So one could possibly replace the pieces without any stamina with stuff like:
sun-gilded shoudlercaps
oilskin breeches (don't remember if there were better ones)
Ravenclaw Band
