I'm a level 12 mage, gnome, with every spell and pretty good gear for a noob. I'm like a 60+ Tailor and similar in Cooking.

My prob is PvP. I'm getting invited to PvP vs these guys who are way lower than me. Like lvl 5 and 6.

1. How can I ID a twink?
2. Is ther a Low level PvP to avoid. I've read the forums about later PvP...
3. What's the deal - are these guys idiots, or are they preying on me/Noobs?
4. Any advice if I do fight them?
5. If I lose, what do they "Get"? Can they take my stuff?

I know these are low/noob questions, but I'm looking for help here.

Thanks
Borsuk

Hi Borsuk and welcome to the awesome mage class :) I'll try to answer all of your questions in order, but I am not that very very experienced, so don't trust me to 110% on everything :)

1. You can identify a twink by his level, which usually is 19,29,39 or 49. The rest tend to level to 70 or so. Also, you can target them, then right click their portrait/avatar and select Inspect. If they have absolutely awesome gear with many enchants and rare/epic stuff, they are probably a twink.

2. I would avoid going to battlegrounds at least 10-29 because there are a LOT of twinks. Also, in my opinion the higher level PvP is more fun, as every class can take advantage of all or most of their specific spells/attacks.

3. I would say they're idiots, have never encountered this myself, only higher level people.

4. Well...depends on your level but use every trick in your ******* and be creative :) It all depends on the class you are meeting, but that matters more at later levels. If you want to ask about a specific class, PM me!

5. No, they can not steal any items. If it is duels, the winner just wins the battle and nothing more. If it's battleground PvP, they can steal your "Insignia" from your body, making you unable to resurrect at your corpse, and making you wait the 1-30 seconds at the Spirit Healer, which is what you usually do anyway. They also get a very small sum of money from stealing it.

1. Glowing weapons at 19,29,39, and 49 are the easiest way.

2. Meh. I've never had problems as or against twinks. But feel free to wait til 39 to BG.

3. Not all twinks are idiots. Many are there for a challenge against others in the same gear. There are some there just to "pwn noobs". The latter are idiots.

4. Kite well. It's likely your best bet against them.

5. They get an Honorable Kill, a bit of honor(which can be spent to earn rewards), and a bit of copper/silver if they loot you. You lose very little, only the durability lost from them actually hitting you.

Maybe they were Priests/Shammies/other healing crap ? Because at the lowest levels, the Mages lose their mana fast and do fairly little, while the priests (for example) have the very effective PW:Shield and heals that can easily cancel all your damage. And so your fight could be ended in melee, where they win.
Just look, their Lesser heals from lvl 4 heal up to 85 HP for 45 mana. Your Fireball from lvl 6 deals up to 45 (+9dot) for 45 mana.
bah, our Fireball from lvl 12 costs 65 mana (+20 compared to lvl 4 lesser heal), is being cast for a default 2.5 sec (+ .5 sec against lesser heal) and deals up to 73+6 dmg which is still less that the lesser heal!

So all in all, you would blast all your mana while they would just heal. And when you get oom they would beat you to death.
Also, mana regeneration at lowest levels is very fast, so they will be able to cast a heal for 85HP every time you'll ba able to nuke for 45/65.

That's why Mages are screwed in PvP at the lowest levels. But hang on. Once you get some +intellect stuff, Counterspell, Evocation and maybe a few Tier2 talents (Ignite ftw) you'll be on your own.
