Yes, people generally assume they know how to play mage even without having played one before. I have experienced the same thing. Mind you, it also depends on people you group with.

No, not really. I offer water/food at the start of the instance, don't pull aggro, and sheep at the beginning of a pull. I keep that sheep sheeped the whole time, and I'm always watching if the healer pulls aggro. If the healer pulls aggro I frost nova, to give the healer time to back up and the tank can pull back aggro.

I'm not sure if you do this all or not, but do this if you aren't. If you aren't just ignore them and don't run with them again.

As Enigmen said, there are many things you can do as a mage that people do not usually notice, but these things can save the day. In general I try to stay next to the healer all the time so, as Enigmen mentioned, you can frost nova and burst to take aggro off of him and kite him back to the tank and Ice Block(if needed). Also I find it great to be prepared for instance - I make my best water ahead, I usually make 3-4 stacks and once the group is ready I give it out to all mana-users. Also when you sheep you can make a macro that will automatically Focus you on your sheep, so you can always keep an eye on the time left and you will know when to re-sheep. When AOE breaks my sheep I usually get aggro of the sheep on me, blink away from the AOE area and re-sheep.

This was a better thought-out post =)

Yeah... I've had those groups who like to tell me what I need to do. Truth be told, I really don't mind being told WHICH mob to sheep. I'd much rather have a game plan than leave it to chance.... especially in a pug. There is such a thing as being polite about it though.

If someone starts yelling at me immediately about sheeping/nova/whatever, I'll start with "say please...lol" (assuming that the leader HASN'T marked the targets for sheep/sap/pull etc.... do they NOT know how to do that?) This usually gets people to change the tone a bit. If they still don't stop, and assuming I'm not having one of my "noob nites" (hey, it happens!) I'll tell them nicely to stop or I'll leave and they can find someone else to yell at.

A couple tips on dumping half your loot to make water..... 1) make it before you go in and pass out enough to keep everyone hydrated for the duration. That way, they carry it, not you. Also, consider stopping at the bank on your way to the instance and depositing some things in your pack that you won't need during the run. That way you should have plenty of room in case you need to make water on the fly.... IF they say please!!!! lol

I finely gave in at about BRD lvl with instances with getting yelled at about sheeping.

There is a great mod out there called "Tattle" it will announce in whatever way you set it, who broke ANY CC. That quickly stopped me from getting yelled at cause of the zomg DoT everything locks, and the "What I can't Thunderclap/Conscrate on top of the CC mobs??" tanks and multi-shot happy hunters.

As for water I give out 40 at the begining of any instance, if you have to go threw more than that... well there is either a: something wrong, or b: you need to stop drinking when you are down 500 mana!!

I am really picky anymore with party's, I don't need rep from any instances anymore.. and I don't need any heroic gear from anywhere... I am slowly saving badges for 2.3. If a party isn't going to work, you can tell before the 1st boss, nothing is worth the agrivation and repair bill unless I am in a REALLY REALLY good mood (yeah.... no caster raid drops in 2 weeks... think THAT is gonna happen soon?!? lol)

Though in truth, it's your time and your patience. I won't put up with people's BS unless it's someting I really need/want. Out class leads for raiding never "tell" us what to do ever even.... I'm not gonna put up with it from strangers =)
