A couple questions about SurvivalFollow

First, I'm a level 62 Orc Beastmaster Hunter. I have loved playing Beastmaster throughout all my leveling (I have only respecced once, and that was fix myself stupidly taking a talent I realized was crap), but as I am approaching end game, I am getting ready to spec to Survival.

I have a talent build mapped out that I don't feel the need to post because I don't want to start another thread of people going back and forth about why you should take this talent over this talent and then the counter point (I've read enough of those posts to feel pretty confident about my talent choices). In my build, I have 0/21/35 at the moment, and I am debating between two talents for my remaing 5 points. The first option would be put 5/5 into Endurance Training for a health buff for both myself and my pet. The second option would be to put 5/5 into Master Tactician for the obvious reasons of increased crit chance and therfore being able to keep Expose Weakness up more consistantly. My only drawback to Master Tactician is that it only has a 6% to proc. That seems like a rather small chance, but maybe it procs more often than it seems. Anyway, any advice on which one of these talents would benefit a Survival hunter more would be appreciated.

Seeing how I am level 62 and still 8 points away from being able to be respec to a complete build, would anyone recommend switching now and getting all the Survival talents and however many Marksmanship talents I can. My reason for doing this would be to learn how to play the Survival spec (mainly the great CC I hear about this spec which is the reason I want to switch from BM to SV, make myself more desirable to bring along in raids and such) before I reach all of the end game instances instead of learning there. If I am still too low to make the switch, can anyone recommend when you think it would better to switch and why?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Personally, I wouldn't make the switch yet. Train your CC skills and so on while you are still at a Talentwise disadvantage, and you will become better at it than getting the talents now and having to rely on them instead of considering them a bonus to your existing skills. Not to mention that your Expose Weakness won't be much of a group/raidbuff until you gain enough Agility. I would recommend a minimum of 500 agility for a Surv build, and I require a minimum of 550 agility for a Survival Hunter in my raidgroup.

As for your build, I personally dislike Master Tactician. For Raids, I went with 5/20/36, forgoing Scatter and Trap CD talents for DPS talents and Imp AotH. For pre-raids though, I wanted more CC and went for a 0/21/40 build with Scatter, Wyvern Sting and Trap CD reduction. I only lose IAotH, but gain Scatter, Wyvern and Trap CDs. I respecced to 5/20/36 only to maximise my DPS in a raid environment. For anything outside of raids a 0/21/40 would be my recommendation.

Thanks a lot North. I'll wait until I get my Agil to ~500 to make the switch and start playing around with builds then. I guess I also won't take either Endurance Training or Master Tactician, I'll have to spend a little time figuring out where I want to use to use those last 5 points. But before all that, I guess I should keep on leveling. :oÞ

And for everyone who thinks North can't respond in a mature, helpful manner, follow my lead and try asking in a mature polite way.

I would also reccomend staying BM (or, as my case was, marksman) until you level to 70. The first reason is because the spec is not really efficient for levelling. You pull aggro a lot more off of your pet even while auto-shotting. While you can CC mobs easily, keep two trapped, one slept, etc... it will just be a much easier go once you hit 70.

If you're feeling like you want to get more experience with survival, I'd reccomend running dungeons as a BM now and practicing your CC... and then when you respec, help guildies by DPSing for mid-late 60s instances as there won't be much pressure on you. This will give you time to get a feel for the talents and perfect your skills while also doing a good service to your buddies :-)

And yes, North can (and often does) respond in a polite and respectful manner... as long as you don't tyep t3h ub3r 4nd t4lk 4bout ch0c0l4t3 pudding.

ROFL, thanks for advice guys. I'll keep on trucking with BM and work on my CC as I go.

I'm kind of doing the same this you are Cartman... I started out as an SV spec though until about lvl 48 when I started reading the forums and realized that I was hurting my leveling a little so I switched to BM/MM, but plan on switching back at 70.

Yeah Zul'Frieze, I got a lot of agility gear at 58 and specced survival for my trip to outlands, thinking "Might as well get used to it since I'll probably be my guild's SV hunter end-game." I didn't even get 1 experience bar (not 1 level, but 5% of a level) in before I was like "***** this I'm going BM." The problem was I had geared myself to have higher agility than everyone else in my guild (i.e. pre-raid 70's), and now I needed to balance stats (although that may have played into why I pulled aggro off my pet with auto-shot). They're better now, but for solo play BM is SO MUCH easier than SV.

I hear ya man! I tried grinding mobs for a while in Nagrand just after speccing and wanted to shoot myself in the temple until I got used to it. I use misdirect... a LOT. lol. :-p

Thank you. I find it ironic that scholars and sadness have the same description ;)

Ah, yes... that. I'd completely forgotten what life was like without it.

I'm almost thinking of rolling another hunter just so I can get used to BM since I need to stay SV on my main... but I guess we'll see if I have time. :)
