Destruction locks please helpFollow

#1 Oct 14 2007 at 9:32 PM Rating: Decent
Okay, I have my technique down for soloing with destruction. However, i'm not so sure about 5-mans.

I'm currently lvl 20, and my strategy of 5-manning is to sick my imp on what the tank is focusing on, cast immolate, CoA, and then blast it with searing pain until it's dead. I'm guessing searing pain will eventually be aggro king, so I'll replace the searing pain with shadow bolts.

This is quite efficient at the moment, i'm not stealing aggro, and only go oom when theres a giant mob. I just have a feeling i'm doing this wrong and would like someone to correct me. How am I suppose to do this now, and later down the road?

Thanks ahead of time.

I am far from expert and I am demo. Playing with an idea to respec to full destro, not for raiding, but for some novelty.

If you can spam searing pain as your main spell I must say you have damn good tank. As I understand that spell is useful only for pulling aggro on yourself for whatever reason, and PvP.

What I do in 5 mans is SBs on trash, eventually CoS or Corr on tougher ones and spam SBs. Farming is Immo, SBs. On bosses its CoD, Corr, Immo, SBs, CoA only when I know fight will not last long enough for CoD to go off.
Shadowburn I use as ender when I farm mostly because in instances I tend to switch pets a lot and act generously with HSs and I find soul draining waste of time in such situations. I farm shards exclusively for instances.

Since, as I said, I am playing with an idea to respec to destro soon my baby hunter is big enough to take over the farming part, I would have a question for those that know better - is it worth keeping insta Corruption and how would build with it look like? I know very little about talents in destro tree.
Pet of my main choice would be imp too, I simply cannot stand succubus around me for long. Would sending imp in fight actually work?

I am not talking raiding - my RL is very unstable at the moment and I cannot dedicate any particular time to games right now. I am talking something like grinding SH for HH rep or occasional heroics. Groups I am running with are equally or better geared than I am and no normal instance is big challenge anymore.

I do not beleive it is worth it to keep Imp Corr in a destro build. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking this is at least very similar to the Raiding Destro builds. I know your not going to be raiding, but the build is probably about the same:

In 5-mans, the best thing to do is, as Sethy said, just SB the trash, and if your low on mana, Life Tap and Drain Life something, then finish it off with a SB. On bosses, until you have 25% Crit from gear, your still going to see an increase in DPS by casting all available DoTs on the Boss. Start with CoD then all your others, when they are all up throw a SB, check to see if any need refreshing, throw a SB, check them again. Do not re-apply them until they are completely finished though, it will hurt your DPS and your DPM (Damage per mana).

Edit: Argh, gotta get her to stop logging in on my work computers while waiting for me to get off, this is really Lathais.

I reccomend Immolate+Shadowbolt for normal mobs. Big groups, you can summon a Voidwalker and Hellfire everything in sight.

Keep your Health and Mana balanced; don't Life Tap to full mana. There are obvious occasions when this isn't necessary, but the balance is to allow regeneration.

Dont worry about that, by now we all know its you Lathais :)

Well, the build you posted is actually what I had in mind.
I only have doubts about Emberstorm. Demonic Sacrifice gives me a chance to up my damage by saccing succubus when I want it, and apart from Immo I am really using all shadow spells. I havent seen many advantages of casting Incinerate so far.
So is it worth to spend 5 talent points to added fire damage?

Apart from that, I would really like to get rid of FSW, actually tailoring, so can you by any chance give me a sample of what I could use as robe, boots and shoulders instead? And I suppose some advices on +crit gear would be helpful too. I have mats for spellstrike set ready but it will not be enough.
I was trying to search around a bit but couldnt find anything better or equal to FSW considering I can only run normal instances for now. I dont even have time to assemble a group for something else but eventually Mech heroic :/

You may know it's me, but my Post Count doesn't....lol.

Emberstorm is kind of iffy, but it's really onlt taken to get to SnF. i guess the points could be spent in Cataclysm instead, to save your mana on SB Spam and the occasional Immo. Now that I think about it, that probably is a much better option for a Shadow Destro build.

For gear, I always use www.wow-loot.com, good sample builds at the bottom will give you a good idea what to look for. Just glancing at it the Mana-Etched Vestments look nice, drop from Old Hillsbrad Foothills, Sigil Laced Boots from Arcatraz, and for Shoulders the Mana-Etched Spaulders from Slave Pens. All those are 5-man content for you Sethy. Really though, there may be some better options, just check out wow-loot.com, it is really an excellent site and has all the "regular" content seperated from the Raid content. I beleive it's meant more to help people get ready for raiding, but it also works exceptionally well for people who do not want to raid.

I have a warlock that has been destruction since day one and i've always done near top damage in any instance I've done and done fine solo. I got points into imp corruption and im still using it at high levels. The rotation I used at lower levels up to the point where you get conflagerate at 62 I believe was just dotting mobs up with corruption and COA and also cast a immolate. Alot of the times if the tank was decent i could dot up more than one mob. I am totally against spamming shadowbolts and have never done it but i might throw one in if everything that i could dot was still dot'd. Now in the 60s after i got conflagerate my rotation is casting curse of the elements, corruption, and then immolate, and once u get incinerate start spamming that in between recasts (incinerate caused my dps to jump tremendously). This rotation has served me very well in the mid 60 instances i have found myself out dpsing a 69 enhancement shaman, most mages my level, etc.
