I am almost to lv. 40 and am going to try my hand at AoE grinding. It looks very effective and alot of fun. My problem is talents. Ive found numerous helpful builds in the stickies here but not many that focus on AoE. I played around on the talent calc. for a bit and this is what I came up with.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000430023313230013201000

Is this more or less where I should be? I avoided the +crit talents as I know Blizzard cannot crit and being my main damage spell those talents would probably be a waste of my time. So is this more or less what I should have?

Also looking at this build I am wondering if it will ONLY be usefull for AoE grinding. Will I be terribly gimped in instances with this build? I plan to use this to mostly grind so it won't be an issue but for the occasional instance run will I be effective at all or will I be wasting mine and everyone elses time by being a sub par mage?

Thanks for any feedback.

For me, i feel this build almost the same as yours. The only difference i get away is i remove 2 points from Imp FB to Winter's Chill because you are not going to use FB in AE grinding. higher chance to crit helps when you use Cone of Cold and sometimes it crits. This 2 points is not critical at all. To all ones need.

I can instance like any frost/fire mage, i maybe slightly lower in dps because of talents like Shatter Frostbite and maxed imp.FB of a non AE frost mage.

Im saying like this: the two points is NOT CRITICAL .

At level 42 should I put the 2 extra points from this build into "Winter's Chill" or would those 2 additional points be better in another spot?

Thanks,

Looks perfect to me. After that I would finish improved frostbolt, then start filling in ice shards. I highly doubt you will want to AoE grind all the way to 70, so I would get the shatter and ice shards talents, but stay away from frostbite until you do not want to AoE grind anymore.

A guildie gave me this link. It's a video showing AOE from level 20-70, spec, area to AOE..etc. I watched it after I started to grind last night and was happy to see I was doing it right.

I was up to about 42,000 xp per hour (rested) killing 8x level 43-45 mobs while I was still level 42. I'm going to give it another run tonight but I see this working quickly for me. It'll be a nice change from questing over and over...
