Standard opening:
I am a new WoW player. I am also confused about certain talent effect you unlock.

Question:
I I for example spend my points and get Shadowburn, then I re-spec to affliction and untrain Shadowburn, do I get to keep it since I trained it at the warlock trainer?

Are there any other useful talents I should unlock as well? I am going to spec to affliction, but this seems like an interesting spell.

No, you don't keep talent spells when you re-spec. You don't really "unlock" the talents, per se. If you don't have the first rank of a spell (which, in the case of things like Shadowburn, Dark Pact, etc., means having the associated talent), you can't learn the succeeding ranks. So, when you unlearn your talents, including talented spells like Shadowburn, you unlearn the first rank of the spell, and thus unlearn all the later ones as well.
