He is a question which im not too sure on as i have not experienced it yet but what i would like to know are shamans able to become main healers i.e heroics/kara etc.

The reason i'm asking is because i wanted to get my lv 62 shaman out of retirement and lv him up and go the resto route with the plan of becoming a main healers in grps but the only reason im asking is i have never come across a grp with a shaman as a healers on my other 2 lv70 chars who i do heroics and raid with (prot warrior and affliction lock).

So i would now like to add a healing class to my list of toons and become versatile as to who i take depending on what class is needed at any given time.

The options of healing classes i have at my disposal to lv are 62shaman, 62 priest, 61 pala and 61 druid.

Of the classes i have our guild are kinda short on resto shaman/druid classes.

At the moment my shaman is full resto and i did my 1st ramparts PUG the other night and altho it was a sucess to me it did seem alot harder then when i did the same instance with my pala who is also holy but i cant really base much on the 2 differnet runs as the run with my shaman the grp was much less organised than my pala grp was.

I was thinking of respecing into elem or enhance to speed up my lvling and then respec back into resto 68-69 as questing in resto seems much slower.

Any input would greatly be appreciated

In my experience, shamans can heal Heroics. It is just a little harder (or maybe I'm bad at playing a shaman).
You will need better gear on average.
For raid content, people will gladly take you simply because a) you won't be the only healer and b) you have some great utility apart from healing.

My priest (then specced holy) healed for the same amount as my 70 resto shaman at 65, and that was with far worse gear.
In addition to that, resto shamans have very little way to manage threat other than doing nothing. Priests have talented threat reduction and fade, Paladins have BoSalv, I don't know about Druids, but Shamans only have the threat reduction totem (which name I don't know right now), and that is completely useless in 5-mans.

As a hunter main, i LOVE shamans healing, Its why i started one myself.
The totems are awesome buffs and the only healers that i'd say are better are paladins.
(but imo, they arent nearly as much fun to play)

And Earthshield absolutely ROCKS!

Concerned about threat?

Make sure you put your earthshield on the tank, not yourself. It'll help him hold aggro when it procs. There's also a three point talent in Resto that will reduce your healing threat by 15%. Other then that, in a raid setting there is Tranquil Air totem, and of course Blessing of Salv.

I do all that (if possible). Still too much threat.
As soon as I have the money, I'm going to get the subtlety enchant.

Anyway, why for god's sake would I put the Earth Shield on myself in a party? That'd be quite a waste.
