Step 1:
"Buy gold"
"What is teh best pet?"
"Give me tree for pwn"
"Melee is fun!"
"Should I get +str?"

Step 2:
North responds with a new string of insults
Another regular will post links to the information.
A bored regular will answer the questions.

Step 3:
A new person with an IQ over 30 will defend the OP saying "You have no right to yell at him bla bla bla"

Step 4:
OP will respond with "Well I think it's this way"
North will say "You havent been here long you dont know how it is"
Several people will back north up.

Step 5:
I wonder why we bother.

Does anyone think that about 50% of these posts are along these lines?
#2REDACTED, Posted: Oct 12 2007 at 10:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well i think north provides strings of insults regardless of what the post is.

He is only kind to high status posters and mods. There is a really bad problem with the regulars on this forum thinking that they are infallible. thus any repetitive posts or posts that don't conform to what they think. They will flame these users faster than a fat kid dives on a cupcake. Then i flame them. they discount what i say because im a low poster. Then they act like they are everything and a bag O chips. Pretty much it is them just acting like hot sh*t.

I commented a while back that the only people who reference someone's post count or karma status are people QQing about how they've been treated by long-time posters. I don't flame people for simply asking a question. I flame them for abuse of the English language, ****** attitudes, or questions so blatantly easy to find the answer to without asking here that they come across as horribly, horribly lazy.

People coming here and basically posting things like, "ya, I 3-manned Heroic SL teh other day wit my guildies which was cool ya know, cuz it wuz like ez and my pet tankd Balkhert teh Insider and **** then we went 2 shat and got drunk wit teh oger in the bar whil teh lock de'd teh epix cuz they wernt tht gud"...

Ya, those people get a double dose of the torch...

The longer-term posters here only ask a couple of things:

1) Don't bastardize the language
2) Show some initiative in at least trying to find the answers to your questions before posting those questions here.

There are some posters here who are just angry a resentful toward anyone or anything, regardless of what they did/didn't do. You just have to take them with a grain of salt. Do your part and ignore theirs, so to speak.

Quote:
Do what i do. flame these bastards because its funny to watch them get there panties in a twist. nothing is better than watching north get all snooty and intellectual OVER A GAME!!! lol its the best

Do that enough and you'll be selecting another asshat screen name, because someone with < 100 posts is pretty easy to rate so low their overall karma rating means one rate down from anyone and they're sub-default. Play nice. Ignore the big bad meanies and try to make a worthwhile contribution to the community. Just because they're idiots doesn't justify you being one, too.
#4 Oct 12 2007 at 11:45 PM Rating: Decent
First off very nice post, you made a point without flaming or trying to make people look stupid. And that is a very rare thing among the regulars here. But please allow me to take a few points from your post and comment on them.

Now i am not a old timer here by any means. but i have been here for a few months and i must say that i have never seen such a post. What i have seen are posts where in the poster asks a very simple and very valid question. But does not speak English very well or was simply not paying attention to every word in the post. And as such was ripped in two by some users here. I have seen it first hand

This is one of my all time favorites

The opp posts:
Quote:
Does humanoid slayings bonuses work in pvp.. I know playes are humenoids, but since detect undead dont detect undead players anymore is H-S affecting players??

A long time user who is famous for being an @#%^ then posts
Quote:
*wants to give an argument against Aethien, but realizes that would be answering the OP's question. Hell no, not rewarding that kind of posting with an answer...*

Now this post got to me for two main reasons. First this was not leetspeak on the opps part. but just poor keyboarding. Did he deserve to not have his question answered? maybe. But what really got to me is that instead of just ignoring the post. the long time user actually had to post that self absorbed crap, like people are clamoring for his take on things.

And why should i go out of my way to ignore these hateful long time posters when they don't make an effort in the slightest to be kind? I refuse to ignore these posters because they refuse to ignore poor posts.

If they really hated poor grammar and repetitive questions then they would just stop posting responses to the questions. But they love trying to belittle people and it shows with the constant negative posting. This is my main reason for flaming these people.

And also like i said. this is a game to me and just like the actual game of world of warcraft, i can take it or leave it. so having this account deleted really means nothing to me.

However i would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your post. It was very well spoken and made great points. and as i have stated above best of all is that it does not belittle posters.

*almost forgot*

Also my screen name can be taken poorly, but in truth its entirely innocent of how it sounds. and is certainly not "asshat"

Simple truth is that koot is a real life nickname that stuck with me. and i used to play guild wars. so i had a character named farmerofkooter, Slammerofkooter, punisherofkooter and many other names that would associate my nickname with my characters.

Well unless your birthname is Kooter or something I see no reason to have the SN. I've commented on it before because I do find it offensive. (edit after koot edited) Although you having a nickname Kooter makes me want to know why knowing what Kooter means.

It's true that when someone posts on many of the things that have been and are answered, someone will tell them to check the FAQ. The information is all there. And yes, someone will inevitably (spl?) flame. Some take this too seriously. However, the whole point of the FAQ is so that the only posts that appear aren't always "what spec" "str or stam?" "what bow" "is hurricane good" blah blah blah.

If people continually ignore the FAQ, it will be a "what should i do" forum, rather than a class discussion.

I'm not an old timer either, but I agree with them. Nip it in the butt before everyone thinks they can do it. Still, some are bigger jerks about it than others.

It's nice to know that people try to answer their own questions before they go on and post a new thread. I think that's long time poster's main gripe about the questions that just won't die. (Besides the big bold letters that say PLZ READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING that 90% of people that ask the quests OP listed just don't seem to do.)

After lurking in these forums for quite a while now,I think that the reason the "oldtimers" come off as harsh is that they have seen the same questions repeated over and over and over (repeat times 100).

That is why there is an FAQ,'read me first-thread' and so on...

When a new poster comes in,ignores all hints and clues as to where he can go to easily find the info he is looking for, and proceeds to post "Wutz teh best pet,I want to pwn!!"-thread number 5 for the week,it gets old fast :)

I agree that sometimes the responses can be on the harsh side, but I understand where its coming from :)

Ofc there are exceptions to this, with replies that are unwarranted, but everyone can have an offday :D

All in all,I find these forums helpful, people just need to open their eyes to all the information thats here before they post, and make the effort to learn things on their own.....spoonfeeding is bad :D

I think Skribs had an well build, non offensive post about in which he stated his personal view on things without trowing sh*t at someone.
Rating him down only makes someone thinks that he was right and someone got offended.
In short he just wants from "ol' posters" to show wisdom to newbies and noobs as well.

Wow thats a spin on things, well anyway skribs it was a good thought inducing post. sorry to hear you got rated down for it, but i do still firmly believe that if the long time posters hate the repetitive and poorly typed posts here so much. Than they should just ignore the posts completely, I feel no sympathy for people who actively search out these types of posts just so they can attack them. and i feel that is exactly what the majority of long time posters here do.

If by "actively searching" you mean "reading all new posts as they appear", then yes, you are right. That's how we get to be so called "long time posters". By reading the forums, and replying as needed. Frankly, I am amused by your claims that everyone beyond the four digit mark does little but trash the newbies. Oh we trashed you, but that was because your posts were retarded. And so is pretty much any post we trash.

But I have yet to see you comment upon the other nine out of ten posts we make. The ones where we answer and discuss the topic at hand, because it wasn't written by a spastic on drugs, and the topic hasn't already been answered in countless threads, the sticky, and on the first page for that matter. Ah, but those posts are just conveniently skipped when you make those ridiculous generalizations, yeah? Or you just missed those, perhaps?

I suggest getting a few facts together before you go holier than thou on anyone here. Not to mention growing a little bit of a skin.

Oh and Skribs, I tried rating you back up, but apparently more than one person went butthurt and rated you down. I can't get you above Default on the OP. And no, I haven't lost my faith in humanity on these boards. The faith in Hunters have been badly shaken repeatedly, by people like Slammer and FangXLR for instance, but humanity? Naw. The OoT tore that little piece of naive thinking out of me long before I ventured within the class forums.

I said something like this a while back, and actually North was really nice about it. I said, maybe we can just post a single "look in the sticky" response and let the stupid question posts die. He/she/it (North, I have no idea what gender you are, there seem to be differing opinions) just said we could try - again - but don't hold my breath.

I think forums develop their own personalities over time. This one happens to be a bit fiestier than most, but there are still helpful, informative people here. Most of the infighting seems to be due more to people telling each other how to behave to than any particular behavior directly.

Harsh lesson for someone brought up with Deep South/Texan manners: proper behavior on the net is a whole different ball game. It took a while before I let go of my determination to enforce face-to-face politeness on the e-community. It is an open arena, and no one is accountable to anything but their own sense of decency. But it is a community everyone is free to leave at any point. If people can accept the forums as they are, there are fun times to be had. But trying to change people's behavior on the net is like one of those ancient Greecian hell tortures, like rolling a boulder up a mountain for all of enternity.

If I can learn to cope, anyone can :)

I see your point, but no. Most posts here are good, or at least readable. Go to the O-boards for a comparison if you don't believe me. Only the retarded ones end up like you (though eloquently) describe them.

Not really...the first post of yours in this thread (the one that's sub-default now) made a comment about how you think it's funny to flame the long-time posters here.

That was pretty retarded.

It takes more than one person to rate you sub-default at this point. Keep going and that will change, however. But since you're looking for specific examples...

Retarded Statement #1

Quote:
I guess i deserve that for not having a possie.

Retarded Statement #2

Quote:
North you as some others like yourself are so full of yourself that any posts other than your own or the others you support are immediately shut down and shunned in your small little circle.

Retarded Statement #3, but let me explain why. You're basically saying that anyone who posts here that North doesn't agree with, he shuts them down. If he agress with them, he doesn't shut them down.

Hello, Captain Obvious. Would you like some cheese with your QQ?

Quote:
and please do as you always do and comment on my poor grammar.

Retarded Statement #4. If your grammar is poor, your grammar is poor. Defending it as being ok is retarded. Unless you're retarded and can't improve your grammer, in which case you're still retarded.

Quote:
The truth is that. you high posters are @#%^s. if you were not than you would have ignored myself and many other posts.

Retarded Statement #5. If we didn't respond to retarded posts in any way, this board would be filled with retarded posts. We ask very little. When people refuse to live up to their end of the "community transaction", they are corrected or made so uncomfortable that they leave. They can still browse the stickies, read other posts, and if they have the wherewithal, they can even yank their heads out of their asses and try posting something a little more meaningful.

Quote:
but being the @#%^s you are. you had to assume your @#%^/English teacher status and show us all a thing or two.

Retarded Statement #6. Did no one ever teach you it was good to pay attention in school? Read books? Develop adequate language skills? Yet you dropped the ******* ball, post like an inbred 3rd grader, and then get butthurt when people call you on it. Geez, I'd rather get flamed in a forum than turned down from a job because your would-be-employer doesn't want semi-literate assclowns drawing a paycheck. The world is so horribly, horribly evil. This is your wakeup call.

Quote:
just face it. your a obsessed wow player that would rather flex his knowledge here than to simply realize that you could walk away from the keyboard

Retarded Statement #7. Just face it. You're an obsessed attention ***** with a teeny e-peen who would rather excercise his loud mouth as opposed to simply walking away from the keyboard.

Aurelius, seriously, would you marry me? In fact, I'm not even going to ask. I'm demanding that we elope right now. That was beautiful!

Slammerofkooter wrote:

I would hardly consider myself one of the oldies here and definitely not part of a "posse". I don't specifically dislike North, skribs, Aehteen... Athaethien... A-something (<3) but nor do I instantly like anything they say, just because it came from them. [Sorry, Aurelius, that includes you. I know we're getting married but that's just cause you make me lusty with yer words. It's not love, so don't give me the goo-goo eyes, baby]

Regardless of me being part of some posse-dom, I can't say that I specifically like you, Slammer. I don't always hate you in general but I do hate when you do the above. I respect your ability to say something like, "I don't agree with/like you, North" and even state that you don't like being called retarded. That's fine and your right.

But your posts tend to degrade, strangle and drown themselves in a flurry of hot "@#%^s". You don't disagree in a constructed debate. You simply just stand there and scream swear words like a three year old child throwing a tantrum. Why?

Because not everyone agrees with you? Are you annoyed that not everyone online is a friend? Is it simply an anger management issue? Or do you think swearing at people makes you look fierce and like a figure of authority? Figures of authority and strength don't stand there screaming that everyone is a @#% because they feel threatened by disagreement.

Seriously, take a chill pill. Have an *****. Learn to use your indoor voice. Have sex to relieve tension. Have a milkshake. Do something.

I play WoW (at most - imagining that the week has been stress free and not full of work) for about three and a half hours in a week. Three and a half hours over seven days, so I'm hardly one who's obsessed.

You may not be obsessed either. But you'd much rather come here and write posts with more swearing than real debate, in order to convince yourself that there's a true lion under that outer kitten-skin of yours - rather than just discuss intelligently, shrug and chuckle to yourself, saying, "haw haw haw! That North is a rogueish card. A chap better watch himself around that toffee apple or he'll get his nadgers nipped!... And now it's time for my lunchtime plum pudding."

Pull yourself together.

That is simply because it is the most active forum. Have you ever tried asking a question in the other forums? It takes at least a day to get a responce. Here, it's within 20 minutes!

I just wanna add Step 6 to the OP:

"Hey, the oldtimers suck" or
"Hey, the newbies suck" or
"North is a pain in the ********** or
"Caldone, why are you still a Marksman?" or
"Why can't we all just get along?" <=personally guilty

So, yeah, if you reduce every post down to a set quick summary listing, then you CAN reduce the content of the forum down to the 'same thing' over and over, but it's an oversimplification.

Despite claims to the otherwise, nobody here is a perfect Hunter. I think everyone learns new stuff all time (like, how many knew that Distracting Shot didn't break Freeze?)

So yes, I think we do re-hash stuff. Simple things that posters start new threads on and don't even bother to try to read the "Every question answered here" thread, does tend to PO several posters here. I am not one of them, but I *understand* the frustration.

I thank everyone here who's helped me learn to be a better hunter, that includes folks like North, skribs, Caldone, Azuarc, AurelisSir, and even many of the newer folks.

If you give the old guard a chance, and ask intelligent, well written questions after doing some of your own research (so maybe you can add in any new findings you've come across), they won't bite your head off and they will listen to you. If you go after someone well, you get what you asked for.

And I still say Kooter was the mechanic in Dukes of Hazzard... ^_^

I would have to agree with that simply because it is funny as hell to see what kinds of words or phrase people use to express their frustrations ;) I mean come on, you could learn at least 1 new insult a day on here :D
