+Feral Combat Skill vs +Attack PowerFollow

For quite some time for my DPS gear (I'm a feral druid) I've just used usually what gave the biggest AP boost. Right now I'm using just a few blue quest rewards for my DPS gear and for example my leggings are:

X-52 Pilot's Leggings
236 Armor
+31 Agility
+46 Stamina
Equip: Increase AP by 62.

If I'm correct, this gives overall 93 AP upon equip. I think 1 agil = 1 AP (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I recently got these:

Shattrath Leggings
242 Armor
+35 Strength
+25 Agility
+27 Stamina
Equip: Increase Feral Combat Skill by 22

It's hard for me to know what to pick... cause I'll be honest, I haven't a clue what +feral combat skill does. So if any of you know and could please show me what it does, how its better/worse, and really just the whole breakdown of Feral Combat Skill vs AP and which of these leggings to wear as well :P. Thanks.

As you gain in level, plus hit and/or feral combat skill become more important. This is especially true later on when the bosses you will be facing will be set at 3 levels (73) above you. Because a ginormous critical strike that misses does nothing for you, you will want to increase your +hit gear/feral combat skill to reduce your chance to miss (hopefully to zero). This being said, I believe that if you are at level 70 and feral specced, you will need 142 plus hit gear to reduce the chance to miss to 0.
Now, if you can't stack as much plus hit gear, feral weapon skill is the way to go. For example, if you have 35 feral weapon skill, and if my math is correct you will have reduced the chance to miss by 2% (this is calculated assuming that your weapon skill is 10 points from the mobs defense). The reaming miss chance can be reduced easily through other decent quality gear with plus hit rating.
Hopefully my meandering explanation helps. Please look at other forums discussing plus hit gear and feral weapon rating for a more thorough explanation.

Anyway, this is a moot point as the Shattrath Leggings have more AP anyway.
35strengthx 2.4 (feral talent and cat form)=84AP
25 Agi =25AP
=109 AP>93 from X-52 Pilot's leggings

Finally, Don’t gear your druid as you would gear a rogue, strength plays a greater roll in determining AP, and some intellect on your gear can make it more valuable in certain situations.

Weapon Skill (for classes that use weapons to attack) and Feral Combat Skill (for those who use claws) are primarily useful at endgame, against bosses. For some odd reason there is a discontinuous "to-hit" function, where there is a standard chance to miss (5% against your own level) that increases linearly against higher level mobs until suddenly, against boss level, there is an additional 3% miss chance as a critical difference between their defense skill and your weapon skill changes the equation. To overcome this difference requires raising your Weapon Skill by 5, which can be achieved by raising your Weapon Skill Rating by 19.5. Having that much makes up for 47 points of Hit Rating you'd otherwise need. Beyond this point, more isn't so efficient, and you're back to spending the item points in hit rating.

Conveniently, just about this magic amount of skill rating is provided by those lovely leggings you have or by the Shapeshifter's Signet.

For a bit more on how that works, see http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Weapon_Skill

In short, hang on to those Shattrath Leggings. Even in endgame raids, after you're decked out in epic gear, they may be the best option when you're in cat form tasked with dealing damage.

In the big upcoming 2.3 patch, by the way, much may change. They will be introducing "weapon expertise", reducing opponents' dodge/parry chance, as a replacement for weapon skill, reducing your miss chance. It is not yet clear (to me at least) what the value of the reformulated ratings on these items will be then relative to other options. (In addition, of course, there will be new options.)

Got any links to this btw?

I may have read it wrong, but I thought they were just adding the expertise bit as a new stat in addition to the ones we have, not replacing it with another..?

Maybe I just need to clean my glasses ;)
