Resistance Gear..Worth it?Follow

My guild was having trouble with Curator because of the lack of available healers in the past couple weeks due to Halo 3, booooooooo Halo.

My question is: is it worth looking into some resistance gear to help relieve some pressure on the healers? I guess this question applies to any other fights it might be helpful on.

Also, what is the formula for resistance to magic? Say I have 100 resistance to arcane. Does that mean I will only take 900 damage on a 1000 bolt, or does it mean I have some calculated chance to resist a certain amount of damage or all damage?

I am not sure of the mechanics of resistances, but I was the soaker for our last Curator kill and I can say it was totally random. My resistance was 240 and I was second on agro so I can take the Hateful Bolts. They normally hit for 4k and I noticed that they hit anywhere for 1500-4k with alot in the 2kish range. If all you are doing is chasing the adds then dont worry about it, have a shaman chain heal. Using my arcane set I lost a fair amount of DPS so I wouldnt do it unless you are going to be the soaker. If you have 3 healers for Curator only one needs to be on the tank, the other 2 should be on the raid and keeping the soaker topped off.

You should have one person with resistance gear keeping second in threat on Curator to soak Bolts, but other than that, get a resto shaman dedicated to chain healing.

TAKE IT BACK I SAID!!!

lol...okay i'm sorry...got a lil defensive.

I've never worn a piece of resist gear so I'm interested in any possible formulas and ideas concerning how the formulas work from those who have some knowledge be it anecdotal or otherwise.

how my runs usually set up is me and the tank on curator, I (rogue) never leave curator and our remaining DPS in the group take out the sparks. I take the hits from Curator, but Im also almost at 12k health in our raid. We usually die once because its never the same group set up, and because we have me 2 tanks and 2 healers ALWAYS there for the pug we have to pick up very little to get going. Since we started pugging Kara I don't see how guilds have trouble with it any more. You gotta be kinda picky with your teams kick those healer that only have 1k healing, drop the tanks that dont have ~12khp. If a dps is doing less damage than a tank kick em out and find some one else. DEMAND deadlyboss mods or bigwigs. Keep your dudes watching timers.

to sum it up, you don't need resist gear.

sorry went kinda ranty there.

I usually stack some 100-150 arcane resistance for Curator (I am always on adds, eh), Aran and Netherspite. It did save my hide a few times. Always nice to resist a netherbreath, especially if you get 3 in a row. The same with Aran's missiles.
I have crafted and enchanted cloak, ring and violet badge for that - these pieces do not break any armor set bonuses.

I went on a Kara pug my first time with the worst gear in the world. Looking back now I shudder to think I actually wore that.

I think I had 1 blue, MH dagger.
No resist, think I had 7k HP buffed, hit rating of like 90, oh god it was bad.

So no, you don't need it.
