my understanding is INT increases damage.

what i am looking for is something to say that so much INT = +1 spell damage.

Ok int does not increase spell damage it does increase crit chance so that @ level 60 approx. 60 int equals 1% crit chance and @ level 70 approx. 82 int equals 1% crit chance. Int does increase mana...every 1 int gives 15 mana. The other thing that int is used for is weapon skill. Increased int increase the rate at which your level skill increases.(although not sure how that works since weapon level is going away in 2.3 to be replaced with expertise). Anyway hope this answers your question.

BTW spell damage is what you should go for...say a piece of gear has +10 int and no spell damage and the other has +5 int and +15 spell damage go for the spell damage. Mana is great but you're a lock...you have unlimited mana with lifetap and drain life.

It does depend on your level though.

Imo you shouldn't be going for +spell damage as a lock until you can gain a substantial amount of it - ie, pre-40 you should be going for int. The biggest reason is that although we have unlimitted mana, until you can effectively drain tank, you're going to want as much hp/int as possible to grind "endlessly". You also wont be effectively bging until you gain d/c and possibly iHoT, not to mention you won't be raiding, so there is no real need for spell damage.

No need for spell damage? Sure if you think so. The baseline damage of a lock's spells isn't that high. Spell damage is nice so fights don't take that long. Great a huge mana pool and 0 spell damage, you would have to have a huge mana pool to pull off killing anything like that. Sacrafice a little int to have some spell damage, it balances it out.

Naw in a rare case I agree with OveliaLethon here.

Pre-60 and AT LEAST Pre-40 you're looking at giving up alot of stats for your +spell damage. +Shadow is a crock for a fliction Lock because you're giving up SO MUCH STA for your +Dmg.

Int is a joke for a Fliction Warlock, essentially whatever you happen to get with your Sta gear you got on. Sta boost your HP and your Pets (if you're Demo) which in turn greater feeds your pet if you're using a Health Funnel rotation. If you're affliction then it should be obvious why you want more +Sta anyways.

And if you're at all wanting to PVP, I don't even know why we're having this discussion.

Aim for STA. If you find some INT that happens to be on your STA item, get it... if you find +Spell on a different item, it's all you buddy.

Frankly, neither take precidence over STA and you litterally CAN NOT have enough of it as a Warlock.

Disreguard this entire post if you're Destro.

The only reason to go for Int over +Spell Dam pre-40 is because there really isn't much gear with +Spell Dam on it until around 40. Even before 40 though, I'd take +Sta over +Int. After 40 it's +Spell Dam, +Shadow Dam, +Sta for me. Now alot of the peices with +Spell Dam and + Shadow Dam also have +Int, along with quite a few of my +Sta gear. However, I have never put a peice of gear on that had ONLY +Int and no Spell Dam or Sta, unless it was a long time ago, and I had no other gear in that spot. +Int is not really something to look for in gear IMO, you'll end up with plenty, but don;t go looking for it, +Spell Dam and +Sta are far superior.

I have a destruction lock so I dont really know alot about anything other than because I have been destruction since day one. I do know enough about gear to say that anything that really has any + spell damage at earlier levels is not worth going for because it usually has no int or stamina on it at all and there are much better options that do. Of course all of this changes at 60 when u wanna begin to look for the most spell damage that you can and for me since im destro I think int and stamina are nearly equal and I also look for alot of spell crit stuff.
