Um, why would you tame a boss just so you wouldn't have to fight it? Wouldn't that mean the hunter went in without a pet to begin with?
I always bring a 'trash' pet that I abandon just before taming a new pet. A hunter without a pet (in a zone his own level) is a hunter that has to melee mobs and I hate that.
I picked up Gamoora back when also. He's one of the lowest level turtles that knows 'shell shield 1'. Plus he's a pretty red.
BTW are they ever going to implement a 'shell shield 2'? I mean come on. There's no other pet skill with only one skill level.
They must have tweaked the shell shield animation recently. My bunny hunter on a PvP server is grabbing all the pet skills and recently picked up a turtle. I was surprised how much cooler looking the animation is now than a year or more ago when my main had my last turtle.

I spent (altogether) about 2 hours looking through petopia when I first started trying to find out how to get Shell Shield 2. I thoguht, 'okay it has rank one' who has rank 2?' Eventually I said ***** turtle and I just stick to cats for now.
Nothing has rank 2.
It is a set amount of mitigation (ie: 50%) so it doesn't need an upgrade :)

I figured that out eventually. It just bugged me. Why not just call it Shell Shield and drop that rank number if there isn't any other ranks available. Ah to devulge into the mind of a blizzard employee...
