New Mage, swapping gear?Follow

Hi all. Fairly new to mage here. lv36 atm. and here is my deal.

I've been playing hybrid classes so long Druid/Shammy that I automaticly started building different sets of gear for my mage. Recently when I was debating a peice for one set, I stopped and wondered if any of it was worth while.

Right now they are very simple. I have a group set and a solo set. Group set = "... of the Owl" and the solo set = "...of the Eagle" I find the extra +sta helps me more while soloing than the +spi does. Am I making my life tougher than it needs to be? Does anyone else do this? I just havent played a mage long enough to know if this is a waste of bag space or not.
