Tanking weapon question...Follow

I am leading Kara for my guild as a prot pally. I've got some good gear and I know what I want/am going for, all except my weapon. Right now I have the Crystalforged Sword(http://thottbot.com/i32660). And currently we're farming heroic mech for badges, but my question is this; if and when The Sun Eater(http://thottbot.com/i29362) drops, do I even want it?

Here's how I look at it, weapon dmg aside(I don't hold hardly any agro with my weapon dmg), what am I looking to lose?

The Sun Eater:
Lose 8 Stam
Lose 8 Intl(not super important, but nice)
Lose 11 Block Rating
Lose 121+spell dmg/healing(what I'm most worried about losing)

Crystal Forged Sword:
Lose 13 Def
Lose 19 Dodge

The 13 Def and 19 Dodge is really really nice, but so is the 121 +spell dmg.

Discuss?

I think its fairly universally accepted that the crystalforged sword is the best paladin tanking sword until you get into BT/Hyjal.

Well that makes me feel better. Sharding a Sun Eater for a nice enchant would be nice too =P

sun eater is war tankin wep

crystal is pally tankin wep

the difference is that pallys tank by applying as much holy dmg as possible due to the only threat generating skill they have is "rightousness fury"!
and warriors tank by applying some white swings, and mostly sounder armor and davastation

so u choose, would u want more holy dmg? (210% threat) or white dmg?

Don't shard the Sun Eater. It is good for situations where threat doesn't matter or situations where you have a significant threat lead over your raid.

Like I said before. White dmg doesn't matter, I agree. It's the extra avoidance I wasn't wanting to miss out on.

I was thinking about that. Like fights where I don't need the threat, because of certain circumstances. Like with the last boss on Bot where I have everyone wait till he sacrifices the first set of trees before anybody starts DPS. By then I have all the threat I need.

We'll see, if/when I see it drop.

Here's some light discussion on Sun Eater. If you use the search function on that forum, you'll find some more discussion on it in various forms.

I've already given the summary, but you might find the discussions interesting.

I don't know, Fang of the Leviathan from SSC is pretty nice.

Well you gotta think, there are a LOT of people that want the Fang for dps (warlocks, mages, etc.) and honestly that weapon really should go to a dps before a protection paladin, so it lowers the chance you could get that. On top of that, honestly, there aren't that many protection paladins that make it into SSC anyway. Now for myself, I'm building a protection set on the side and I'm going to try to get my hands on Hammer of Judgementmainly because at this point only offspecs want it, so I can get it fairly cheap (one dropped and it went for near minimum tonight)

Other good examples include Murmur when you have nothing but casters or perhaps fights like Netherspite where the person in the red beam is the tank regardless of how much threat has been done.

Shade of Aran, those wurm things that are immune to spell damage are a couple others. I'd pick up the Sun Eater if it drops and use it in those fights, but keep your Crystalforged Sword as your primary tanking weapon.

While Shade works, I'd rather have the paladin healing or trying to DPS than equipping the Sun Eater.

True, and I do throw heals when it's needed during Aran, but most of the time it's not needed, so instead of just standing there, I bring out a harder hitting weapon. Every little bit helps.
