Ok what am I doing wrong?
L42 Fire Mage.
If I am in a group (all experienced players, with L70 alts) of players my level consisting of a tank, healer etc, I cannot avoid pulling aggro with my Mage.
As hard as the tank tries, the mobs will jump from him to me after I've hit them with a Pyro/Fire blast. (approx 700-800/300-500)
Am I hitting too hard? Should I be causing less damage?
I die far too often due to this, please help!

Pyroblast and Fire Blast are both notorious for grabbing aggro in instances, and I believe this is your problem. I would suggest sticking to a Scorch/Fireball rotation, using Frost Nova in situations where you do catch aggro. I believe you will find this to be far more mana efficient than throwing in Fire Blasts, and the disadvantage of taking a few seconds longer to kill a mob is outweighed by the fact that you will be alive at the end of the fight. Basically, stand at maximum range when a fight starts. Polymorph a guy, wait 3 more seconds, and then start building up Scorch (via improved scorch) on the main target, adding Fireballs later for increased DPS. Also, be sure to occasionally throw in another Scorch so the 15% fire damage bonus doesn't fade.

I think it is the pyro/fireblast combo as I imagine they both hit the mob at nearly the same time, so it is just too much burst damage. Try pryo, fireball, fireball, fireball and save the fireblast for a finisher (if you even use it at all)

Also, when are you starting your pyro. You should wait until the tank engages then start your pyro, that 6 sec cast time is about perfect to let the tank get a good start on aggro.

you gotta remember that a mage can frontload all his damage, ie you can hit a mob with a pyro and fb 2 seconds after the fight has started, but tanks work differently they need to get hit to build rage to use threat caausing abilities, to get hit more to build more rage etc, it takes them time to wind up, tanks dont really get going at full power until about 10 secs into a fight, go real easy at the start, later on you should be able to open up depending on the tank

For a helpful hint, try waiting about 3-5 seconds and use your wand. I hope that someone (or everyone) is using Omen/KTM so you can see their threat generation. It is more of a science to know where you are and how much each spell generates to make sure you don't go over their limit. If you want to, you could probably do a single pyroblast (6 seconds hsould be enough to let them get aggro) then just use scorch to finish them off.
