Questions: lvl and gearing a priest at 40Follow

Ok so I'm sort of new to the priest forums on Alla, but I'm requesting help all the same.

My fiance plays. We had been playing together but she got busy and I didn't so now there is a 4 lvl disparity between our characters. She is a bit miffed about this as we were playing "together" (the only true way to get a girl into WoW ;)

This is her profile: I Hope This Works

I want to surprise her at the end of the weekend with a few things (and other non-WoW related...I'm not that bad of a guy :))

1. I want to lvl her to 44 to match my char. (prolly follow James' lvling guide...any better ideas?)

2. I'm going to send her money so I can give her better armor/stats/whatever- what should I look for (affordable but still a good upgrade)

3. I need advice- To lvl her I'm going to respec her to shadow (she's discipline...) because it'll just be easier- Should I
A. Leave her as Shadow because it'll make her able to kill things,
B. Revert her talents back to the way they were prior to me lvling her or
C. Revert her talents but make her talents better...you know...make sense.

I really need some help with this. I have read this forum in the past but couldn't find anything that delves into a "personal" matter such as this.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Speaking for myself here (don't know if she thinks the same way) but I would actually be quite pissed if my boyfriend leveled my character for me, even if it was supposed to be a surprise. Just let her level and catch up to you on her own, play an alt for a few days or something.

I also wouldn't touch her talents, even if you switch them back. You're causing her respec cost to go up doing that, so if she wants to switch some stuff later on she'll have to pay more because of it. (technically you shouldn't even know her account info or log into it, but whatever :) )

Getting her new gear? Sure, go for it. I think the Dreamweave stuff is what I was using around that level. Don't have time to look at her profile right now, just wanted to get my opinion out there about letting her do things on her own :D

What Khalane said...dont touch her stuff IMO. Play an alt or run BG for a while till she catches up. You can offer to help in that fashion but I wouldn't recommend 'suprising' her with it.

For gear, recommend she run SM cathedral for the healing mace, neck, hat. If she's uncomfortable running without you, go with to keep her in her comfort zone.

Edit to add: Also the SM library boss has a great staff for priest. If you wanna hook her up, pay for a +30 INT chant on it once she picks it up.

Oh jeez... I didn't mean it to come off that way. She's been on me recently about my char being higher than hers and she actually asked me to play hers instead of mine so she could catch up. The surprise part was going to be me actually doing something she asked ;)

I hadn't thought about the cost of respec. I was going to ship her some gold to buy her gear anyway...a few more to respec wouldn't hurt, but I do agree that causing her game to be altered by me respecing her is kind of bad. Normally I wouldn't think about doing that...it's just that her spec is discipline so it's not going to be exactly easy to lvl her. Meh...

As of now I guess I'm just going to get her new gear and play around, probably just grind for a bit. I appreciate the advice. The grind won't start for quite some time as I'm at work, so any other suggestions from yourself or others would be lovely.

Hehe just saw this. That's a different story then. I'd pick up a few SM runs for her then & Ulda after getting the drops from SM.

I'm a big DISC fanboy so I wouldn't respec but would understand the need if you plan to grind.

The weapon and cloak have to go, at least in the bank. They are only for show.
Indeed nice upgrades for the weapon can be found in SM Library. For the cloak I recommend AH, I think there she might find a better one than what Tailoring will give her at the moment. If not, go Razorfen Downs, there she can find a nice cloak, as well as a nice ring I think.

She is totally Disc I see, I hear it can work, but if you level her for 4 levels, you might want to go shadow. You can do something like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bVZZxMxpMxk0x

I am sure that is not the perfect built though. You want to have Spirit Tap and Wand Specialization. Then, Improved SW:P and Shadow Focus are also important.

You can still heal as shadow, it just takes a little bit of focus and good speel choice.

Without touching her level. just run ab and wsg on her character for a bit. 10 wsg marks for a better pair of bracers 20 AB each for a belt and a pair of boots. look under defiler in the search button to the side and dryid for an example of the items you'll get. replacing those three items for the 40 braces and the 38 defiler's gear and it will last her roughly until 60. (it's also a good idea for your own character as well) I forgot what they are called on the allied side but look under warsong gulch and basin supplier.

Oh, so did I mention that I apparently have no idea how to play a priest class, despite having lvled an alt to 30ish? I tried playing her last night. She's lvl 40 (41 now). I almost got killed by two lvl 36 mobs. It was one of the most sad things ever. Seriously...it was pathetic. (oh- I have a rogue main, in case there was any doubt...)

Anywho- thanks for your advice. I don't want to respec her, I think i'll just "suffer" as disc for a bit. She hasn't touched STV so lvling should be smooth sailing. I'm going to buy her armor and hopefully get her to look badass. I also want to get rid of Hydrocane asap. Staff was great a bunch of lvls ago but doesn't cut it compared to current lvl buffs.

Thanks!

Good luck, but forgive me if I doubt you're gonna be fine with a Disc spec, especially since you dont know how to play a priest. 5 points in Spirit Tap for example are great for leveling, cuts the downtime greatly.

if I remember correctly, the spell rotation for a spriest = fort self, spirt self, drink. shield self, target xxx mob,Holy fire, PW:P, smite, Scream, wand.

also the hydrocane is somethnig you should keep for the underwater breathing. just make sure you have another cane you can keep for when you're not underwater and needing a breather. I've ever fought allied(or other players) underwater on my various mobs. if the guy has no water breathing apparatus you can believe I'll try to lure him as deep as he will go and then cc him and just watch him/her die.
