No best professions, imho.

If you don't have a lvl 70 and can farm stuff for your lower lvl alts, I would suggest taking 2 gathering professions; ie., mining, herbing or skinning.

Mining is is good for an early boost because all lvls of ore sells well. For Herbing mid-lvl herbs sell well and high skinning can reap in high rewards.

If you already have a lvl 70 toon, pick up blacksmithing. You can make most of your own armor and weapons. Pretty nice considering the stuff you make can last you for a few lvls when you can make them.

As for secondary professions, First Aid is a must and you have to keep it lvled so that you can make and use the highest lvl bandages for your lvl. Cooking allows you to make some nice food that'll give a small buff and Fishing can be used to compliment cooking.

Basically, gathering professions if you want to make gold. Production professions once you have your own economy up and running and keep secondary professions (especially first aid) at max skill lvl, if you're able.

ie = that is

hehehe

Anyways, as your second profession, try picking up skinning. You'll be killing a lot of "skinnable" things on your way to 70. You may not see good returns until you are 300 skinning though. If you're impatient, pick up herbalism. Some mid-lvl herbs sell well and you should be able to get your hands on some when you are lvling.

this being your first toon, you should definitely take two gathering professions til you get to outland and closer to level 70. after you get your flying mount, making money on daily quests and farming will be less painful than it is at the beginning.

when you finally start gearing up for kara, you can go into crafting professions like blacksmithing and (oddly?) engineering, engineering has some NICE epic pieces for both tanking and dps.

crafting skills are fairly easy to level up...

my warrior made lots of gold skinning and mining... then at 50+ i swapped to herb/alch... both was easy to level up...

a day or two and a lot of gold, you can level up your crafting...
so make the gold, buy the gear... then have fun later on...

I'm gonna have to say, blacksmithing and mining.

Or blacksmithing and enchanting, if you have way too much money to spend on upping your blacksmithing.

Their are too many things that come out of BS that you just can't get unless your raiding 25 mans constantly.

storm herald, bulwark ... of kings, dragonstrike, the whole ragesteel set is awsome for pve DPS... it goes on from their.

Forget the crafting professions. If you're new to the game you'll need money. Take mining and skinning. Sell everything on the auction. Later on if you want to craft items then take up a crafting profession.

I concur with MentalFrog. I took this advice and am close to level 40 now with well over 100 gold, despite spending WAY too much money on stupid potions and scrolls to keep myself buffed up during grinding/questing. Skins sell fairly well and silver ore and mithril ore bring me INSTANT gold.

Drop me a line if you're Alliance and I'll give you a few tips on where I made a few good bucks mining/skinning. This website and its members have been a GREAT source of knowledge and will make your game more efficient and fun!!!

I have one toon, a warrior. I am now level 40 with mining/skinning and it has made things very nice.

Question: when I hit 70, if I switch to blacksmithing, can I make weapons for my other toons?

everyone says skinning is crap and they drop it when they don't see any returns, but for me it's nice. I'm level 42, already have my mount, and still sitting on an additional 175 gold. The thing is that you have to be really proactive about it. Skin everything you see. Save stuff in yoru bank until you get stacks of it. Be persistent when selling stuff on the AH. On a good questing run I'll come home with 10-15 gold worth of stuff I just skinned. Current level is like 230-240.

I will suggest the same as the previous posters, grab two gathering proffessions till you hit 70 and have your flying mount and what not. Now, which 2 to choose out of the 3 is a different story. I suggest you check out your servers AH and look at the different lvs of herbs/ore/leather and how much they cost. Obviously pick up the two that are the most profitable. Usually mining sells best in all servers, but you don't pick up alot of it like you do herbs and leather.

For example, on my first toon I took up herbalism/skinning. I did decently had all the gold I needed for w/e at certain lvs. However, on my particular server skinning is garbage at the later lvs due to the fact that there are just too many skinners. On the other hand, herbalism is profitable from the begining because even at 70 people are constantly looking for herbs to make potions/elixirs etc. (some say on their server skinning is the best at high lv).
