Hello, just rolled a new orc shaman. Going enhance so far, lvl 18, waiting to get two-handed weapons -- and theres the rub.

Finished up all my prereqs for the main wc quest and realized that the crescent staff i get as a reward does more dps and has better stats than any other two-hander I saw on allakhazam until the late 20s. I couldnt believe it, figured I must have missed something out there. So I ask you wise shamans -- is my new melee guy really gonna be best off whacking people with a staff for the next nine levels?!

It doesn't really matter what 2h you use as a low lvl Shammy,
as long as it does good damage and has nice stats (or a nice proc).
I can't see any reason why you shouldn't use the crescent staff, more mana for ur shocks and more health for taking a beating. Just don't bypass 2h weapons talent cause u got an uber staff.

I ended up using the WC mace and a shield until 29 for Corpsemaker.

For me I just went one handed and shield until 21 (I believe) until I got the talent for Two-Handed Axe and Maces.

I did this so I have a wider variety of choices for weapons. Frankly I'm not too fond of using a shield, I rather dual wield or go 2 hander. Though there isn't a problem with using a shield at that level. I actually recommend a shield until you get the 2h axe and mace talent, that is if you don't have a good 2h.

Also not too fond of using staff to pound on people either. After I hit 21 or so I got the Taskmaster Axe dropped from Deadmines. Not a bad 2h weapon, not the best for my level though.

Like RuinatorVek said, that is a pretty good weapon at that level. Better than the Taskmaster in terms of stats and has a bit more dps. Honestly that should last you a while.

One weapon I can try to urge you to get, though it may be difficult being horde...Smite's Mighty Hammer.
That weapon gives nice stats and will help you as well. But the staff is still nice :)

Sensei is on the money here, until you get Windfury at level 30 you don't really have the burst damage to make a 2 hander viable IMO.

I would recommend getting a good mace and shield up to that point, the survivability will be far more valuable due to the lack of burst. At 29 you can get Corpsemaker from RFK, just in time for WF at 30 then let the fun begin.

Thanks all, makes sense. I also shouldnt put the cart before the horse -- my last two wc pugs did what all wc pugs seem to do -- disintegrate before the third boss.
