DST, would you use it...Follow

#1 Oct 10 2007 at 1:07 PM Rating: Excellent
In PVP.

I'm talking about this little jewel.

Now I know Haste rating have been nerfed. I know the DST itself has a built in cooldown now.

But as far as I know, it's still one of the best sustained dps trinket out there.

Arena fights are long drawn out affair now. Slash & Dice and EA have long replaced Eviscerate and even at time Kidney Shot as finishers of choice.

It just seems that using a trinket that increase sustained dps would be the way go.

That being said, the overall vibe I'm getting is that I'm better off using a trinket that's triggered - because I have control over when it will happen.

So, I'm polling for more opinions, what do you guys think?

With my understanding of haste, I certainly would use that.

That's pretty unanimous (and goes along what I was thinking) so far ;p.

Weird that most people tell me to use a trigger trinket (bloodlust brooch, abacus, nightseye panther) because I can decided to use it at the same as time as BF+AR...

I'm not a big fan of amps in PvP (because I'm lazy). Random trinkets are less reliable, but allow you to focus on other things, and require fewer keystrokes in crunch time.

If you were Mut, I would tell you to go Bloodlust Brooch. Use trinkets are for burst, but as Combat, your entire principle isn't focused on burst so much as steady damage (granted it can be bursty).

id have to agree with the "yes" camp. even after the nerf haste rating is still quite good, especially for a combat rogue.

besides, you can always choose to pop AR+BF when the haste rating procs and get much the same effect as a "triggered" trinket. sure, it wont always proc at exactly the right time, but i think the overall gain far outweighs that negative.

I think the medallion and the talisman would work best

I think he means as a secondary trinket to go with that (in the other trinket slot). Most people do use the medallion/talisman in arena... it just makes sense.

As far as which trinkets to use... DST is a strong choice for anything really. It's the best sustained DPS trinket in the game even after the double nerf (it was godly before that). I would personally use it if I had it (for everything).

That being said, DST hasn't dropped for since the first 2-3 weeks we were doing gruul. We have 1 rogue with it IIRC. I was next in line for it a while back... but I stopped raiding for like 2 months so now I have to get in line AGAIN!

For combat spec, yes I don't see the point why you don't use it. However for PvP, there are always better choice due to different playstyle against PvE.

I would say that activated trinks are a bit better. I go into arena with the bloodlust brooch. Tbh my arena experience is not that awesome ...i'm about 1700 rating but i'd rather pick a trink on which i have some control(and at 1700 i kinda see A LOT of fully glad/merciless players...guess my battlegroup is pretty hard). Given i'm mainly doing 2v2 and 3v3 i would go with Bloodlust Brooch.
And also maybe it would be wise to pick up u'r trink based on what tacs are u using in arena and what kind of arena are we talking about 2v2 3v3 or 5v5. And the team members.
Maybe considering an attrition battle the DST would be better IF it will proc(i'm not quite clear what the proc rate on this trink is).
I would go with the Bloodlust Brooch.

I accidentally tested it on the same PTR when The Night Blade got nerfed. It's a solid 5% (tested over about 5,000 swings).

So 5%(don't have DST either so :))....). Well i'll stick to the Bloodlust Brooch. There are those moments in arena when u see the healer u are zerking at 20% and trying to heal, u have no interrupt available......and that's when that extra ap from bloodlust kicks in and usually gets the job done . For me that trink adds a bit of burst damage to combat swords.
