shield spikes or stamina enchants?Follow

As the subject states, can't decide which to get on my two shields. Plan on using one shield just for soloing and maybe a little instance farming here and there. The other I plan on using for when I'm the tank in any outlands instance. Now I read somewhere that shield spikes help increase aggro which is always good for us pally tanks since we don't have a lot of taunts. So I was thinking of going with the felsteel shield spike on my tanking shield and then a good stamina enchant on my soloing/instance farming shield. Any thoughts?

If your going tanking with pally I would say forget Shield Spike. The majority of pally threat comes from holy (spell damage) shield spike is only normal damage on block so its not contributing a lot to threat. What we do struggle with is stamina compaired to other tanks so +stam on shield is always welcome/ needed at high level tanking and when you go into Kara.
Regarding taunt we have a great taunt in Righteous Defence as it is a ranged taunt so with a simple macro you can pull targets back to you from a fair distance.

I'd just go with the shield spike for soloing too. Extra damage = shorter fights.

IMO you have that backwards. Paladins fall short of Warriors in the area of health, but our aggro gain is phenomenal. A shield spike won't do you nearly as much good as a stamina enchant when you are tanking. For solo though, and farming, you won't/shouldn't be needing as much health, so a spike could help things go along a bit faster, particularly with a bunch of mobs on you. So get an 18 Stamina enchant on your tanking shield and a spike on your farming shield, or just use the tanking shield to farm. But whatever you do, no spike for tanking :P

Well im my opinion, every *Prot* Paladin needs a Shield Spike, the best you can afford. A Thorium hits for ~25 each time, and for AoE farming that is a huge amount of DPS with a few mobs hitting you. It overlaps with Redoubt and Holy Shield, scales well with Defense and Block Rating... it's just a good idea all round.

Stamina enchants, to be honest, arent worth jack **** unless you're a main tank at lvl70 in either the second half of Kara or Gruul and beyond. At that point, Stamina becomes everything. Prior to that, the DPS boost from a Shield Spike is excellent for farming and pretty nice for PvP too.
