patch 2.3 spell dmg bonus from +healFollow

I'm holy and getting 30% from all +heal items and chants is a really nice little buff for all aspects of the game. This next to destroys the usefullness of my aegis merciless set and the pvp gear that goes with it. I spent many months building this set to have a certain approach to pvp that took a considerable drop in healing bonus to gain some offensive threat. Ya, I go OOM much faster than a healer not throwing offensive spells out as they are much more mana expensive (especially remaining holy/ prot and not having cost reductions from any of ret tree). Anyway, those were hinderances I accepted with this approach.

Now after 2.3 this set is far less unique or worthwile. As of now I have 880 +spell dmg/ +heals in almost full pvp gear. After the patch a decently +heal pvp geared pally will still have his +1800 heals (a convenient number that seems fairly easily attained with full set), but in addition will have +600 spell dmg. I have wanted to get to 1k +dmg which may or may not be attainable when i complete my set and get a 40+ spell dmg trinket, which does still offer a little edge, but way way less of a practical advantage. All holy pallies will now have considerable burst damage while still have superior heals.

Had i gotten the ornamented set I would be stoked, but with the aegis set I was NOT happy. So I'm left with the option of going for the 40/0/21 build and see if I like it and maintain alittle affensive advantage, but even then I'd be happier with the full heal set in doing so. It's a HUGE buff for heal sets. I will still love the Aegis set for soloing, tanking sub heroic 5mans, and dpsing the occasional 5man as well, but arena will take a hit so big it practically makes the set obsolete.

This is my QQ I guess. I wish Blizz would give me the option of replacing this set come 2.3. I'd get the ornamented set in a heartbeat. Very few got it to begin with, but after the patch you'd be crazy to get it. Unless the new dmg set is godly, they might as well remove it. I'm tempted to find a way to file a formal complaint (a suggestion here would be appreciated), but it seems like a highly doubtful outcome to have my set replacable.

This game goes through alot of changes, and I'm sure alot of people in the past have had sets they spent months acquiring become nerfed in one sense or the other. It's good that the game evolves to keep it interesting for everyone, and keep us guessing or somethinglikethat, but jeez cmon qqqqq.

Anyone else having similar thougts? I'm sure any others that posses the plate dmg/ heal sets feel the same way.

So let me get this straight.

1. You assembled a set with +880 spell damage / heal
2. You used that set in PvP to some level of success since you got most (or all?) the merciless glad aegis pieces
3. After the patch, you will still have that same set providing the same kind of efficiency than before
4. However, you now also have the option to mix in purely +heal pieces to augment your stats, your horizon and your options have widened vastly.

So... what are you whining about, exactly?

PS
Oh, and lest I forget, the free +damage on healing gear was announced at Blizzcon, first week of August. You've been assembling your set ever since. If the change comes as a surprise to you two months later, don't blame Blizzard.

The only PvP I ever do is the occasional Battleground, usually with my guildies because Alliance players in my battlegroup are apparently incapable of mastering the vast complexity of "protect the healers".

As for PvE, I have nothing but <3 for this change. I've had multiple gearsets since...god I can't even remember. I'll be only too glad to be finally able to dump my solo gear and free up those extra bag slots.

*Edit: just saw the post above, had to change mine a bit.

Maybe you're right, it could be a good thing. I'm trying to look at it that way. Ya, and I guess I was just way behind the news not knowing this aspect of 2.3 months ago. Thanks for keeping me in check alittle. Hit 890 spell dmg today, and still want to hit 1k just cause i've wanted to since i started getting this stuff. I've been thinking about mixing in Season 3 ornamented merciless pieces as well, undecided.

Yes I've fared decently in arena with it, and that's my worry. Continuing in the same way as I do now seems like it will be nerfed alittle, by others becoming alittle stronger/ more diverse. It's a cool buff reallly, and like I said I'd be really exited about it were my pvp gear heal set. It'll all work out tho :)

The impact of this in PvP is negligible for paladins, at least in arenas. A holy pally with 1500 healing is still going to be spamming FoLs, Cleanses, BoFs and shields. Hes not going to be holy shocking anyone. Waste of mana, waste of a global CD, and still crappy damage. If the healing pally is doing damage, either you have already won, or you have already lost.

All this does, as far as pallies are concerned, is help the healbots get their ******* dailies done. I cant wait. I have so many quests to do on my paladin that i havent been able to stomach due to my snail speed killing.

If you are a shockadin you are gonna be getting more benefit with stacking spelldmg.

Besides, lets say you have 1k dmg/heal. That's still +1000 healing and the benefit you get from that is greater than the 500 spell dmg with 1500 straight healing.

Totally agree, I just love the changes to make my holy pally have better life in those normal dailies/quests. In fact if the aim is shockadin, I don't see the point getting healing gears.

Ditto on the "Hooray for Holydins." It's almost like being a civil servant, this holydinbeing. And you try and do what you can to make a little bling, and every other class has an easier time burning through PvE.

This was a no brainer good move toward the eternal pursuit of balancing. We needed it bigtime.

PS From the top post, it seems like Bliz is trying really hard to get us more psyched about PvP, or are trying to make it easier (less skill) to be combative, however I'm not biting on Ret.
