Folks;

I have a lvl 28 feral druid that I'm leveling up. I've been having a lot of fun with him in pve and decided to try pvp. I was doing a WSG and came across a hunter, solo. Just him and me. He pwned me 5 consecutive times. I tried hibernating his pet (but that took a while, cause his pet was scratching me and he was shooting me with arrows), I tried ignoring the pet in bear form and charging, but I'd get wingclipped and he'd get out of range, ice trap/pet kill. I tried kitty form, but the same thing happened as a bear.

Do druids do well in lower level pvp, or do I just not know what I'm doing (which is highly probably in either event).

Any help would be appreciated.

at 20-29 druids are comparatively weak, whereas hunters are comparatively quite strong. thats a large part of the problem.

another part is that hunter may very well have been a twink, someone who has poured a lot of time/money into making that character far stronger than a "normal" 29.

finally, try practicing against other hunters around your level in duels. hibernating the pet isnt always a good thing, especially if youre feral. your strength is your feral forms, but watch out for his scare beast; it will fear you like it will any other beast. a quick shift out into caster will make you immune to it (and it has a 30s CD i think). rejuv yourself while youre in caster then hop back into bear/cat and continue the fight.

Hunters espicially destroy you now because you dont have any good openers, such as Pounce. I cant remember if you have Ravage by then. Still dont worry about it to much. Hunters are pretty much top dog no contest until like the 49's last I checked. Below endgame level solo-PvP is broken in so many places.

Actually I'd call PvP at that (28) level a disaster for a druid. Mana going out too fast without Resto part (Furor and Nat Shapeshifter), while if you have it in your spec you don't even have Shredding Attacks and can only have 1/2 Feral swiftness which are quite a must in PvP. You do not have Pounce, you do not have Frenzied Regen, you do not have Travel Form.
You're generally screwed.
Druids get to be given the skills for all the roles a character fill in this game. The downside of this trait is - you don't get all the skills which make each 'role' complete until end game. No other class, for example, gets skills of such importance as Maim, Lacerate, Lifebloom or Cyclone are for the various Forms as late in game as the Druid does. Let's see... Maim is your only incapacitating finisher (bah, your only incapacitating non-stealth-required skill!) of Cat form (Rogue's don't get Gouge/Kidney shot at lvl62, do they). Lacerate, aside of Mangle (available no sooner than at 50th lvl), is your Bear's only non-next melee, sensible damaging attack - Swipe is generally too weak and too costly to use outside of dungeon/raid multi mob tanking situations, while Maul goes with your next attack and cancels any Rage you'd receive from it - so it is 'teh suck' as someone wrote in another thread ;d. Warriors have Slam and Execute quite a bit sooner than lvl 6x. Lifebloom is priceless in PvP, where everyone would want to counter/interrupt your Healings, as it is your second Instant Heal (first is Reju) which in addition stacks up to 3 times! And Cyclone... what can I say, it's your only Caster form's reliable "shut teh meh up, I wanna heal" spell.

So as I said, Feral druid at 28 is quite screwed in pvp.

*whew* Okay, I'll go out and level some more. I love feral forms (esp kitty), but I really like the versatility of the class as well. Thanks for the advice.

39 is our sweet spot. Travel form and enough talent points to really define oursevles. Sense no one has mounts Hunters are the only ones who can catch us when we really want to get out of the fight.
