So the other day, upon reaching lv 60, I did my usual search of Petopia to see what pets have become available to me. I saw the regular types I have so routinely passed over; bats, bears, wolves. I saw a red raptor but wasn't too keen on it. I have a ravager but it's one of the hatchlings in Hellfire and I'm not too fond of it either (waiting another few levels to get either a full grown red or purple one). Since level 43 I have been using my tamed King Bangalash, who I named GeneralMeow, and since 48 my boar from Blasted Lands, Sausages. And I'd been happy with them, but I have checked Petopia with each level nonetheless. This time, once again, it seemed as though nothing really of interest was available. But I was wrong.

There it was, halfway down the list, the style of cat I missed at 23 with Humar the Pridelord and have wanted ever since. The lion. To be more precise, the white lion Sian-Rotam, from Winterspring. Comes with no innate skills, but that doesn't matter, I'd already learned just about everything I'd want for a cat (except highest rank Claw and Prowl, but that's what the empty stable slot is for). Naturally though, like with everything I do and want, there was a catch. As I'm sure so many of you already know.

Spawned at the end of a medium length, horde-only quest line, in tandem with Shy-Rotam, a turqoise cat. A big hurdle to overcome, I would think. My only real course of action seemed to be trek out to Winterspring and camp its spawn point until a horde came by to do the quest, then promptly steal it.

I did not like this option. Seemed nasty and underhanded. So I rolled a tauren named Cowmonster and ran to Thunder Bluff with the intent of requesting assistance in the horde side's trade channel. After two or three deaths on the way from incredibly powerful level 7 wolves (lol) I made it to Thunder Bluff and began asking for help. I explained that I was a lv 60 alliance hunter seeking the generosity of a horde individual doing this quest line who would allow me the opportunity to tame Sian-Rotam, as one only needs to kill Shy-Rotam to complete the quest anyway.

Would you believe the first reply I got was, "Why don't you just steal it?"

Made me laugh, but I explained that I had some moral reservations about doing such.

"Alliance players have morals?" was one reply. Made me laugh again. Maybe the alliance really DOES have only kids! (just kidding)

Got no takers, so I went back to my Hunter disappointed and proceeded to run out to Sian-Rotam's spawn point in Winterspring with the intent to eventually, at my own dismay, steal it upon its spawning. However long that might take. I waited about 30 minutes and it was getting late so I figured I would log out and go to sleep. However instead, on a whim, I went back to Cowmonster to explore Thunder Bluff as I had never seen any of the horde cities before. It was beautifully designed, has a very rustic and even Native American feel to it. On another whim, I placed my request in the trade channel again for help in acquiring Sian-Rotam.

And would you believe.......someone offered! Said they were bored and that they'd been wanting to tame Shy-Rotam anyway for a while. I offered gold via neutral AH but they declined. I explained I was already at the spawn location and they said they'd log to their other character and head right over. I feel so bad I can't quite remember the name of the character they first contacted me on, but I'm pretty sure their horde hunter was named something along the lines of Valassah.

So I jumped back to my hunter and after about 15 minutes Valassah showed up with some other horde who, I think, were not actually with him/her at all because when a tauren spawned Shy and Sian and I tried to tame, they stole it off me. Realizing my blunder I did a /sorry and slapped myself a few times. Once they were done, Valassah popped it again and two minutes later I became the proud owner of my very own white lion. I named him Terminator.

Just goes to show, a little diplomacy can go a long way.

Wow, that a really cool story. Congratulations on taming Shy-Rotam. As you said, a little diplomacy can go a long way. Always good to see a fellow hunter get a pet they have really set their heart on. Just hope you don't let go of a pet like that, or you could lose a really nice memory.

Oh, by the way, I like the name you chose. If only you could change the name of a pet more than once, ah well...

I have a blood elf, and when I was lvl 13 I left ghostlands and headed to Darkshore for a pet. I found a black and white striped tiger that I named Onyx. 57 levels later, which btw = 70, I still have onyx and I have yet to trade him for another pet. I have an all white tiger from winterspring, but I have had Onyx for so long, there is no possible replacement. The only problem is there is a Blackwind Sabercat (70-71, Terokkar Forest) and so you'll see lots of 70's running around with them, but other than going to alliance noob grounds to get one, for a very long time I was one of the few Horde to have one ::warm fuzzies:: Just my little story about my favorite cat.
